100th precinct has some explaining to do

  • Yesterday was an atrocity. The 100th precinct allowed for complete and flagrant disregard of any and all parking rules on residential streets in the beach 90s blocks. My street was parked end to end with beach-goers on the "no parking" side of the street, allowing for zero access to fire hydrants. I personally confronted close to a dozen individual police officers on the boardwalk (bikini patrol) who said they were unable to do anything about it. They all suggested I call 311. 311 said they would pass the complaint along but that officers in the area were "too busy" to attend to the situation. 911 said the same. The desk officer at the 100th precinct said the same.

This was obviously a decision coming from the top not to ticket illegally parked cars on Memorial Day. This is completely unacceptable. It only takes one traffic officer (ticket cop) to ticket a whole neighborhood.

  • They were too busy trying to steal my surfboards off the roof of my friends car while we went in to the grocery store for some grub. When I walked up on who I'm pretty sure was the sergeant himself trying to undue the straps he said he was doing us a favor because "these things get stolen around here all the time". They apparently wanted to teach us a lesson and were going to leave a note on the car and have us pick them up at the precinct where they were going to lecture us. There were literally 3 suvs and 6 mother f'ing cops trying to steal my surf boards instead of doing their jobs. I know brown trout gets stolen all the time down there but I didn't realize the cops were doing it too. DICKS!

  • Holy FVCK! That is a new low. So they were too busy stealing surfboards to ticket the cars blocking all the hydrants on my street. Unbelievable.

  • If you look in the picture you can see behind the gun toting lifeguard cop a whole row of cars parked up the righthand side of the street. That side is completely no parking at all times.

  • If you walked down the beach it was kinda funny to see the empty zones of people who weren't sitting were the cops were watching, it was like oil and water.  It got pretty mayhem-like in areas other than the surfing beach.

I'm all for the cop on the chair keeping a general eye on bag stealers, but I've noticed that they don't even try to enforce the parking rules on 91st on Memorial Day or 4th of July.....just think of the missed revenue...

  • The parking situation is a legitimate safety concern when I have a ten year old stuck in the house after a few days in the hospital and all nearby hydrants are blocked with beach goers.

    ;)

Still waiting on that whambulance. It apparently still can't make it through the illegally parked cars on my street.

  • there are major kinks to be ironed out if this weekend was any indication.  Ridiculous number of vehicles on boardwalk -- safety concern for numerous reasons -- toddlers running about while drivers are bikini-distracted, boardwalk in total disrepair as is & seems like one of those vehicles will just crash through (or cause further damage to weakened areas).  Regular patrol, unmarked, and even an SUV or two (and those are full-size cars -- to say nothing of the 'golf carts' zipping about).  Dangerous, damaging.  Start ticketing for littering & dog poo - get some revenue.

Issues that need to be addressed w/ Parks:
----this AM on a bike noticed many cans on boardwalk that had been emptied, with brand new trashbags put in - clean as whistle.  Except they left the 3-5' radius of trash piled around each can (now blowing all over).  Is picking up what's IMMEDIATELY around can (because it's overflowing) not part of  same job?  Now the same sanitation crew needs to do route TWICE (if they double back at all).  A worker would have had to MAKE A CHOICE to leave all refuse that was RIGHT THERE BY CAN.  Took pics --- now need to know where to go with them.  These major inadequacies need to be exposed.

----the backhoes that drive all up & down beach -- plowing sand "flat."  What are they DOING?! Razing sandcastles?! IT'S NOT A PARKING LOT!!  Don't these idiots understand 1) it's an ecosystem 2) PACKED sand does not help flooding, etc. 3) dripping oil, anti-freeze is a HAZARD 4) when they're running over & pulverizing all sorts of plastic & garbage, it can no longer be picked up by that strainer/sifter/trash vehicle thing? (MORE driving on beach) -- I witnessed backhoe running over stuff this AM before the clean up had happened.  Hard plastic bits, glass, etc. ground into sand...  WHO IS RESPONSIBLE for this utterly idiotic thinking & protocol?

Yes - send the whambulance -- I cannot believe what I witness at city-run beach...
the A is a small price to pay
