  • from Assemblyman Goldfeder, a petition to keep ferry:

    petition at www.KeepRockawayFerry.com

Thanks as always to Joe Hartigan for his hard work and advocacy!

    -----------------

Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder a longtime advocate for increased
public transportation options for Southern Queens and Rockaway families,
is urging residents to join the fight to continue the Rockaway Beach Ferry
Service by signing a petition to Mayor Mike Bloomberg.

"Super-storm Sandy has devastated our neighborhoods in Southern Queens and
Rockaway, including our vital transportation infrastructure," said
Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. "While each day remains a challenge to
recover, it would be even harder without crucial transportation service.
The ferry service has not only provided an efficient and convenient means
of travel, but has provided enormous assistance to help our community
    recover."

Elected officials, community leaders and residents have been advocating
for ferry service to Manhattan for years. In the immediate days following
the devastation caused by Sandy, including the destruction of the 'A'
subway line, the city began ferry service to accommodate commuters who
were having difficulties traveling to work. The ferry is presently located
at Beach 108th Street and Beach Channel Drive and cost a $2 fare each way,
with free transfers in Manhattan between Pier 11 and East 34th Street.

"I have been advocating for ferry service for years," said Community
leader and ferry expert Joe Hartigan. "Continued service will help with
the rebuilding and recovery of Rockaway and continue to help make us a
    destination and improve our economy."

"Southern Queens and Rockaway families have been through enough these past
few months and this ferry service is their only transit lifeline," said
Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder. "I am urging the city to maintain the ferry
even after the subway service has been restored to give residents
transportation options and speed our recovery."

  • done.

i havent availed myself of the pleasure of the ferry yet, but hope to at some point. plus, with the youngn going to school in downtown manhattan next year it'd be pretty handy.

maybe its rockaway syndrome, but i'm not too optimistic.
