  • an aside, do you think when we got the the shlt knocked out of us, I wonder if people in New Orleans and N Carolina et al were wondering the very same thing about us.  Do you think they were wondering where to donate because they knew what we learned, that Red Cross is useless?  I was only 20 when the house i lived at go flattened by Fran in 1996, i was on wrightesville beach oceanfront, north side of the old pier.  I dont remember any Red Cross presence there either, maybe at some point they came around with spegettios, I shlt you not, but nothing else.  That was a category 2ish storm if I recall, but I care not to.

whoa, i just google mapped it, the lot is still empty where my old place was.
Entire rows are still vacant down there..won't allow construction..on topsail anyways

  • i don't understand why many of the new outlets are pimping the red cross. naive of me, i know, but i would think that news of their incompetence has reached the ears of reporters who like that type of controversy. i guess there's just too many powerful philanthropists (or not-so-philanthropists) associated with the red cross?

and, yes, situation in the Philippines is WAY WAY more dire than anything Sandy wrought, but i have absolutely no expectation that their effectiveness is positively correlated with the severity of the situation.

It actually makes me ill when I see news outlets and personalities hawking for the Red Cross. I wonder if any of them actually realize what they do or don't do with the money...or even asked for an ounce of accountability on how much they collected vs. what help they actually provided to anyone in Sandy.

but i will post this because I fuckkkkkn hate red cross, maybe at some point they were good, not now.

  • A good friend of mine has an uncle that lives in the surf rich southern region of the islands, he has not been able to make contact with him yet.  He said the area is leveled but that his uncles place stood a chance of still being intact due to its concrete construction.  He was waiting to hear back from his family in the surrounding islands as to who was doing the best aid, relief, and evac effort, they all seem to have made it unscathed.  When I hear from him I will let you know if there maybe some sort of graybeard organization there.

  • My company is matching funds as well. One of the two options was Doctors Without Boarders. They seem pretty good and state that 86 cents of every dollar goes to relief.
