Can you share specific info or even pictures of how the major beach renourishment in Rockaway from 1975-2004 impacted surfing?  How fast did the breaks recover?  Additional info?

thanks!

I don't have photos, but after the last replenishment, NSSS changed a bit but came back relatively quickly (couple of months tops) to its normal break.  It was still among the most consistent spots immediately after the replenishment.

whatever answer will get the sand on the beach the soonest, thats what happened.

having said that, i can't remember any of the dredging having any particular longterm effect on the breaks. coupla months, some rough days and a storm or two and its usually back to close to what it was.

I think it was 1998 and 2002

1998 killed it for a while, sand to the tip of the jetty and almost as high, took about 4mo's to get any kind of wave to happen, after a year there was enough escarpment to give shape to the wave.

2002 wasn't anywhere near the volume of sand & 2 NE'rs most of the shape came back and the beach was good/wide for a few years after that

God, I miss the pre-2002 wave off the tip of NS3.

Northstreet: please don't screw up the downtown breaks. The last thing NS3 needs is more crowds.
I need the sea because it teaches me.
