  • Anybody know the name and location of a really good nursery?   I'll be planting a permanent garden in the spring, and I don't think Home Depot is going to cut it for what I'm looking for.

  • HD has everything, depending on the time of year.  The sales sometimes cant be beat either, for the really hard to get stuff, we hit up Hicks on the North Shore.

  • when i left work for school we had a few peach trees, not sure if htey are still there but they can order one as long as they are still available at the greenhouses. also had some AMAZING blueberry bushes, so good that i would eat all the berries while at work (was ok since the birds would usually get to them if i dont they grow right back) and i bought 3 of them before i left for school.

  • Redhook is my little pre-gentrified Key West in Brooklyn.
Liberty sunset is the best, the owner Gloria is like my little Colombian Tia, in the same hood you have Chelsea garden center, and gowanus nursery. While you are there hit up Steves key lime pie, a fellow SoFla Brethren who makes the third best Key Lime Pie I've ever had -including Key West contenders, also try his unsweetened key lime aid, and the chocolate dipped frozen mini pies. If you are there on a Saturday hit up Value Added farm, they grow and sell organic stuff right there in front of Ikea. Hell even have brunch at the good fork where the value added produce is served blocks away like Savoy in Soho without the price (talk about hyperlocavore).

Shacky order your beach grass online and have these Capemay cats fedex em to you, October/November and March/April is the time to plant American beachgrass.  Plant them 6" to a foot on center, triangular spacing in straight sand, the species is Ammophila breviligulata http://www.churchsbeachgrass.com/

  • By the way don't overlook Home Schlepo and Blowes. Last year HD had full size fruit bearing apples, pears, cherries, and peaches for $50. I have a grove of these on my townhouse rooftop which you can see from the F train beetween Smith St stop and 4th ave stop. They sellout fast so start looking in Late March.
