  • so this morning i did my usual 3.3 mile run (techinically it was a little longer) and runtastic said it was 2.8, so I went back and checked it with google maps and the measuring tool zoomed in to the highest res and it was still 3.3.

anybody else ever check it ?

  • I found that it was wrong often.  Me, my wife, and my wifes cousin would all run the same route, and get two different results.  The two of us with iphone 4 / 4s would get much less than my wife did with her iphone 5.  After that I started using Runkeeper instead, which I found to be a little more accurate, and then switched phones completely and havent run since so I dont know.

  • Doesn't bug the brown trout out of you to have your phone with you while you jog?

On one hand, certainly the freedom and simplicity of a pair of shoes and your running clothes is nice. On the other hand some people like like having stats/info at hand. I was running with a metronome for a bit to quicken my pace and shorten my stride. I liked it.  If you look around the board you could figure out why Arne would have reason to just deal even if was annoying. I just use Gmaps pedometer, an online website thingy to map my runs and accept what they say. I compared it to my friend's fancy watch thing and it was pretty on .
It's no better to be safe than sorry....

  • I kinda presume its the GPS. I'm going to look at some other apps though. Anybody have anything good to say about the others ?

As to running unencumbered, I much prefer it. the ultimate run for me is on a warm day, barefoot and a pair of shorts on. I'd run naked if a) there was no chance of being seen and b) it were comfortable to have the old junk jangling around.

after my recent...event...though, i kinda like having a phone with me, and since i just started up exercising again, its motivating to track my progress.

  • Hey Arne, I am sorry for my lack of sensitivity. At best I was obtuse to the context of your asking. Mine was a response towards the follow up dialogue. BUT, I forgot the context in which you asked. I am very sorry.

    Truth be told-

I've wanted to PM you to extend well wishes but I thought it might be weird and emo-stalker-ish.... So instead here I am stating it in this thread. It's a blessing that you are alive and back out running. Your intimated story floored me when I first read about it. I had a friend who's uber healthy father helped him renovate his house, returned back to Florida, got back on his regular DP running sessions and died on a trail from a heart attack. I miss the part of my friend that was taken when his father died.

So I'm glad you are alive, healthy and on the mend!

And regarding being unencumbered, your story inspired me to take a few steps, one of them being a Road ID that I wear all the time now. Including in the water.
