  • that's it. i'm converted. following the lead of grandmaster BB i've been making the transition to barefoot. should have ditched the toe shoes sooner, but today did my first 2 miles completely barefoot on the street.

i don't know what it was, but i just had this goofy smile on my face the whole way.

bullshit. try it. start out slow, and your feet will instruct the rest of your body how to run.

  • back when i was a teenager - i did all my running in barefeet.  it was the best, and though counter-intuitive, it also helped ward off injury imho

  • I use to run from my rental house to Maria's (6 miles) Barefoot. you learn to deal with pebbles, glass and everything else on the road really fast.

My gym requires I wear something but I really dig going Full commando.

Props to NYCWipe for getting a barefoot running book recently. I'm thinking of going Full commando in NY as well.

  • plus there's a certain freedom that you feel.  hard to explain.  i used to run to the beach, dive in the water and swim across the intracoastal to the beach beach, run a few miles down the sand and then back from where i came.  i'd run into dolphin and eagles and egrets and snakes and all kinds of wildlife.  i felt like mowgli and it was frickin' awesome.

i think i'm learning the hard way that its better to start off barefoot and go to the toe shoes or the minimal shoes when conditions won't allow barefoot. there's an enormous difference between what you do with your feet and legs barefoot and even the toe shoes. to paraphrase barefoot ken bob, running with standard running shoes is like trying to play the piano with boxing gloves on, with minimal shoes its like gardening gloves, and with toes shoes its like thin cotton gloves. i was in the toe shoes for about a month and just could get past significant calf pain and soreness, and yesterday and today (2 and 2.5 miles barefoot) i have no pain anywhere other than my sole burning a little.

and as for the mowgli thing LN, I know exactly what your talking about. i feel like some hunter sneaking up on a wildebeast.

Just be careful out there Årne.  There always seems to be a lion or a crocodile laying in wait when there are wildebeests around.

  • Yes, Arne would like you to run that barefoot Jock.

Not happening with my overpronating, bone spurred toe feet.

I not going to read the book, because I know I'll want to do this, but can't.
