  • Forwards a resume to you for a position you're hiring for does that mean you have to hire them?

    No of course not.

But the person that you hire instead better be damn good.    ;D

Seriously, I would discuss anybody that you thought was more qualified with your CEO/President.  Be prepared to justify your reasons for preference of one over the other.  Also be prepared to hire your boss's girlfriend's son/brother/whatever.  If you have discussion with him along those lines, he will probably make it clear that either the decision is yours or you should hire his referral.

No, I am not a smart ass.......I am a skilled, trained professional in pointing out the obvious and I speak fluent sarcasm.

Sounds like good advise. Though I do not know if i will ever be in a position to talk to him. He's in the stratosphere compared to me and passed the resume along via his staff.

Chain of command dude.  You just follow it back up from whence it came.  I'd be willing to bet that the person who gave it to you is not willing to decide one way or the other and will pass the decision up to the person who gave it to them and so on and so on and so on.

You could also exhibit what a solid brass set you have and knock on his door (figuratively) and state I would like to discuss this with you.  Things like that have been known to move folks onto the "fast track".

  • Its true, what Dakook says, this is a serious issue becuase they dont always send you the best candidate for the position but people are threatened by the CEO's choice so they hire anyway. Most the time its a hook up & it aint fair to people who have worked really hard. Fark him but you must Hire someone whose gonna wup arse so its easy to justify the choice. Dont feel intimidated either, stand your ground.

The man gets enought goodies, let someone who deserves it work for it.

  • All that I said previously should have been qualified by the following statement:

"It's not what you know, it's who you know"

By that I mean if it comes down to a short list of candidates and the boss' referral is one on that list..............
