I was wondering if someone can recommend a good beach on the Jersey Shore for a newbie. I'm looking for small and consistent waves so I can get comfortable with my board. So definitely looking something for a beginner level surfer. Some place in North Jersey would be good. But if the best places are in the South, I wouldn't mind driving a bit extra. Let me know if anyone has recommendations. Thanks.  ;)

  • hey Blue, welcome to the site....

The surf around here is a lot of things, consistent isnt really one of them, unfortunately!

There's plenty of good breaks along the entire coast, tho....and I'm sure some people will shoot you a private message or two on here to guide you in the right direction.

Biggest thing you can do is just keep getting out there, there's no substitute for water time...and take some time to watch and learn the basic rules of etiquette...EastEndWahine has a great site on etiquette, click here!

    Good luck!

  • Keansburg or Union Beach.
    Take your pick.

Just kidding. Seacliff is right. Find an empty sandbar and have at it.

Also, go to some CNJ ESA events and introduce yourself to Joanie Sapienza. DaKook knows Joanie, Seacliff probably does too.  We gotta get Joanie on here! Anyway, she is without a doubt the most psyched person on the planet and she may take you under her wing and show you a thing or two (as is her wont).
So heavy you can't even pick it up.

Joanie's great, but steer clear of that Scott Goodwin fella - he's trouble.  ::)

The CNJ crew, including the very funny Scotty "Gimme the Microphone" Goodwin are some of the best people you want to meet. They'll help you out a great deal, blue....
