  • ACOE sand pump in full effect.

The cove at the north end of Allenhurst has been filled in with sand.

  • This sucks!! We were able to get some last year cuz they didn't pump it yet. Hopefully what they pumped 1.5 years ago on the more northern spots have been drained out

  • Hate to say it, but spots filled last year are a long way from returning. Last time around it took 3-5 years. I'm not young enough to wait that long anymore. sucks to be an EC surfer. our waves are inconsistent and shitty enough as it is, and then we have them ruined every 5-10 years.

  • For a while will be forever or at least until i am dead. My teen age son wanted to surf Sunday so we left a hot sunny home and 15 minutes later parked on a frigid Hathaway ave in a massive T-storm. Could not figure out why all the cars with a storm like this, figured any surfers would be getting out of the lighting. Anyway storm passes and we take a look at top of the rocks and now I know who the cars belong to, its all the workers putting down the new sand. All the jetties are buried so surfing and striper fishing are now buried with them. I was so bummed as well as cold, I just went home, had no heart to look at other beaches. No amount of erosion will matter, the Army will just dump new sand like they do in Sea Bright/Monmouth Beach/West End. Deal was the last hold out on replenishment, man are they gona be pissed when the next storm surge rides that new higher beach right over the sea wall and into their homes.

  • And ---- south ocean city, strathmere , whale beach, sea isle city, north half of Avalon .......and I think parts of long beach island.....

The ACofE is doing their thing to justifity their existence......and spend lots of money.     However, surf fishing, surfing and toasted for a while and the rate of cervical fractures and other injuries will increase.  Gee, I'm soo stoked

  • So this first barrel image popped up on my fb newsfeed today as something I posted 5 years ago today and I happened to take it at this very spot.  In its honor, I will post the rest I have from that spot (pretty sure most are from Hurricane Danielle) (also, excuse the watermarking and excessive processing).
When this spot was good, man, it was lined up like a point break. I remember one of the last days I surfed it in late 2010 at low tide there was a sandbar next to the jetty, you could pretty much walk right out to the lineup. The rights were dredging off the shallow bar near the jetty and then peel off down the line.

(I have the sequence, he does make it out of the barrel)

  • From what I saw last week, a good 10 to 15% of the sand they dumped over the summer is gone already, and we're barely to November.  Some little bit of hope given the bad news this week re:LB.

Thanks for the positive spin. I think the beach fill from Jan 2014 further south of there has even more significantly eroded away. Bob Duerr could probably speak to it with some authority - Bob, if you're listening, chime in!

  • While that's potentially good news.. We also just had almost 3 weeks of nor'easter/hurricane swell and another good size swell the following week. Can't always count on that happening. Long Beach is a pretty stable beach as it is - there really have not been significant changes over the years. That's one of the reasons I think this is so dumb. Unfortunately, having a naturally stable beach like that might mean that the sand sticks around for a while. Sorry for all the negativity - really not happy about it.
