  • I'm partial to Sally Tee's in MoBeach.  Or Ichabod's in Sea Bright.  But the Windmill will do in a pinch.

  • I like the 'squan Surf Taco. In the one across from BNW in Pt, invariably I can only get the table that goes right next
to the line, and wind up eating with someone's ass in my face. Of the NJ Mexi-Surf cuisine offerings, I like LexMex the best. It's kind
of a ride to take just for burritos though.

After dawn patrols if there's a couple of us, we like to hit "Amy's" in Long Branch (located inside of the versatile Ursala Plaza shopping center) or the Turning Point in Pier Village. There's a closet sized coffee shop in O'Grove that I hit for muffins and coffee if I'm craving something lighter.

For lunch/dinner I like Market in the Middle in Asbury (yum, sweet potato fries!) or I head home to Red Bank and ditch the wheels so I can get my stout on over at Dublin House or Echo.

Who's been to 'The Shack" in Sea Bright? any good?

This is good info, thanks.  I guess I'm going to have to get over my knee-jerk opposition to Pier Village, yeah?

  • I too shudder with revulsion at Pier Village.
It took some coaxing on a friend's behalf to get me to go there the first time.

    me, and no.

If you want good local Mexican, you need to go to any number of the taqerias on Broadway in Long Branch, all are good and very cheap, albiet no one in any of them speaks a word of Ingles.

If you can get over how they were able to build it, Pier Village is ok, considering what was there before. Sadly - or maybe not - none of the stores/restaurants there are doing nearly as well as they thought they would be by this time.

  • Second that on the Broadway Taquerias.  I'm a relative latecomer to these (of course, most of them haven't been there all that long).

Dave can vouch for Sally T's and the beauty that is a free pickle bar with Anchor Steam and a water view.

  • Any thoughts on Sip & Nibble in Asbury.

The wife and I go there pretty much exclusively now when we surf in the area.
Excellent pulled pork and NJ-style sloppy joes.

OK I only lived in NJ for about 6 month when I first moved to the NY metro area about 30 years ago, so I probably don't belong in this room, but I gotta know...........

WTF is a NJ-style sloppy joe?

I know about NJ-style pizza, fries, garlic crabs, fried clams, bagels, hot dogs, root beer, among other food items and I don't have a clue what hes talking about

We went to Chat n Nibble once, all we got was bad service and dirty looks, then again, my daughter did tip over a bowl of food on the floor. If you feel the need to go to Asbury for food, go to Franks Deli, literally every item on the menu is good + way cheap.

  • A "sloppy" is a triple-decker sandwich of either ham, roast beef, corned beef, pastrami or turkey, with swiss cheese, cole slaw and russian.  Typically, its served on toasted rye.  The Cellar Cafe in Newark makes a terrific sloppy.
