  • How is this different than many other Jersey towns? There's no parking on residential streets in Sea Bright, either. And any spots against the sea wall are "Private Property" as well. It's how they get around the "public access" laws. If the "public" can't park, they can't use the "public access points". Keeping the beaches to themselves. this will be more prevalent with the replenishment/dune projects that stipulate public access to all the beaches.

I'd look for 1/2 hour limits on meters and such as well. Yes, you can come to our town, but ONLY buy at our shops- stay off our beach, Bennies!

  • Recap: big group of local surfers showed up, many spoke, all urged the boro council not to vote for it. One resident, a rather elderly man, spoke in favor of it. Sort of. He said he paid a lot in taxes, too much to have people changing on his front lawn (but he then later qualified that, by saying he didn't mind the odd female that did so) and then advised many of the attendees that surfing was a pointless activity and to just go someplace else to pursue it. Then he segued into an altogether different issue, something to do with one of his neighbors not filing proper paperwork for some sort of construction. He then complimented one of the council members for having voted with integrity in previous issues concerning the administration of the Boro's business but then insinuated that the same the council members had dementia.

PS you can't compare with other towns. Sea Bright, for example, has much more narrower streets than Deal, as well as more densely built with smaller houses (as well as a retail district) many that don't have driveways. It would be very much unfair, trapping the residents and financially ruining the business owners

  • I read the recap, and it sounded like the motion to restrict parking will go forward. Did I read that wrong?

  • The size of the town is moot... Any town who reluctantly approved the project knowing that "public access" was part of the deal will look to impose parking restrictions. The two places that haven't yet approved it will keep their status quo and restrict access as they have always done.

This is how beachfront/waterfront towns in the Hamptons, Connecticut, Florida (Palm Beach, esp.) and the like keep their beaches free of riff raff. Either you walk in from miles away, pay RIDICULOUS fees to park in miniscule lots, or just stay away and go to a State Park, which is where they want you to go in the first place. That way, the locals have access to their federally funded "public access" points without needing special permits to build a private stairway over the wall/dune.

  • the motion will go forward, which means they agreed to vote on it at the next meeting (late July) and all the Boro council members have indicated that they will vote for it to go through

  • If residents are allowed to park on one side of the street are they not allowed to park on the other?
