  • This board is as functional as it is beautiful. I saw Mark E get some good ones on it this am.

  • Going into my tenth year surfing and fifth year short boarding I am still inconsistent. I am still blowing waves and popping up with my feet in the wrong place at times but today I had a great session. Didn't kook out on too many and was able to get out on some faces to make some check turns and even a slow cutback to the white water.

The board seems to be a good fit for me, I got the volume right and I put the fins a little further up (12" up for the front fins and 7" for the rears). Seems to compensate for my narrow stance. Been trying for ever to widen my stance.

Waves were good today so I don't really know how it grovels. I am sure I will find out soon enough.

XPS foam skinned with 1/8" thick spanish cedar. 3 coats of spar varnish. Not sure how much this one weighs. Feels about the same as a PU board with a 6/4 glass and gloss coat.

  • Very interesting build.  So is there any fiberglass cloth and resin involved or are you simply relying on the vac bag glue bond and varnish to keep the board strong and protected?

  • No fiberglass. The foam is xps so it doesn't need to be protected from water.
Spar varnish protects the wood. The boards are very strong and don't have heal dents but they get scratched easily.
