  • thinking about pulling the trigger and putting in a order for the rocket (gave into peer pressure after watching 5'5 redux..so sick)

seems like a fun alternative to grovler/small wave fish..any one have feedback on these shapes?

  • i tried one once. the board was too thick for me but size was good. def felt like a really really good board for around here and i think ill be getting one at some point as well. i might grab the stealth though which is the shortboard version.

  • The stealth looked way more appealing to me.  I find I don't like volume in the nose and flatter rockers.  I prefer a little less stability in return for more responsiveness and the ability to handle larger surf with steeper drops.  There is a point where I feel like I'm on a small fun board where characteristics are blurred and the board becomes blah.  Never ridden the rocket, but any fuller shaped board I have ridden I ended up ditching.  My favorites are the ones that keep the extra width from the midpoint back, add some nose and tail rocker, and have some sort of single to double concave.  The stealth is built towards my kind of specs.  If you are very aggressive and have good balance, the stealth would probably be better and more versatile.   On a steep day, the rocket is going to be harder to make the drops with such a flat nose.

  • I rode my Rocket yesterday in total crap and it went ok not magic but enough volume to make a tiny day rideable.

  • well if you order it super short the lower rocker doesnt matter in steep drops because since theres no nose almsot you can put it under hte lip and always make hte late drop because you wont pearl like with a longer board. same thing with my RNF's ive had

i find that with my 5'5 twin keel that i can make almost any late drop due to the size. it's the bottom turn that gets me though, i'd like to surf something that short with a trailing fin to help from losing the tail when i dig in. i'm a huge fan of the 5'5 for no paddle drops.

  • yea my everyday shortboard is a 5'10 cole.  I was actually thinking about going as low as a 5'4 just cause it has so much volume spread throughout anyway

  • well your supposed to order it 2"-6" shorter then your normal board and you can go even more, theres a vid of gorkin on a 5'1 killing it on it. so like you said since theres so much volume in the board you can go shorter like the RNF.

  • Rode it today for the first time, i caught about 8 waves. Its the best board I've ever ridden for the first hour. Its fits right in the pocket and turns on a dime. Its probably the first board that felt like magic right off the bat.Unfortunetly,I took off way to deep on a shoulder high wave in 1 ft. of water and got drilled. The right fin drilled me in the calf and now I have a broken fcs plug, nothing major just annoying. >:(  Thank god I got an xtr(no water) :)
