It's not a very profound thought, but I think almost every person I've seen really charging the bigger hurricane swells this year has had experience in big Hawaii or west coast "charging" I mean being really comfortable and attempting critical moves-not simply surviving the drop.....
True or False?

So I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the Rockaway Rezoning that was adopted this fall, so I failed to notice that the beach blocks directly near the NSSS (including my house) have been drastically down-zoned.  No more huge monstrosities can be built!  It's all R5A:

The  R5A district will limit future development to one- and two- family detached houses with a maximum FAR of 1.1 (with attic allowance). The maximum building height is 35 feet with a maximum perimeter wall height of 25 feet.  R5A districts require a minimum lot width of 30 feet and a minimum lot area of 2,850 feet.  One off-street parking space is required for every dwelling unit.  The  R5A district will protect the traditionally larger one- and two- family detached houses found in these areas.

very interesting. I wonder what that means for the speculators who where buying up the land around the beach blocks?

Welcome to a new ESA division!

Have a good one!

Spring weather, swell in the water.....meetings all day  :(

so.... I need to hang my 9'2" longboard on a wall, basically flat, like on a shelf, close to the ceiling.  The walls are plaster, and I hope I can find the studs.  I've been considering purchasing this rack

But.....I can't help but feel like an idiot for spending that much on a piece of wood and a dowel, and some wall anchors...

Have any of you guys made nice wall racks?  Ideas?  I've got some designs, but I'm concerned I will do something stupid and destroy the board or my house

Please come out on Saturday and have a drink with us in the Lower East Side.  We're playing 9:00PM at The Annex at 152 Orchard Street (between Stanton and Rivington) with some great other bands.  Miwagemini plays before us with her cool alt country meets Japan singing and songwriting, and we are followed by Heloise & the Savoir Faire (kinda dance-punk recently signed to Elijah Wood's Simian Records)....after that, there is the infamous Tiswas dance party......should be fun!

This show will probably be the last one for a while as we decend into the recording studio for a new album.   Hope to see y'all there

Marioville! Sports, Politics, Humor and more... / my 4th gen ipod R.I.P

Today's run on the treadmill at the gym finally did in my old ipod... :-\

oh well.....March 2005 to December 2007......not really a bad run for an ipod...

I think I need a new nano for the gym!  ;)

I payed $50 for these last year and used them twice.  They are as warm as it gets.  I really needed size 10, but I didn't feel like sending them out my big toe and buy these for $35.  I'm in r0ck.

After moving my computer to it's new home, I turned it on and it told me rather bluntly:

"Disk Book Failure Insert System Disk"

I of course, don't have my system or boot disk, but I've made one at work I'll try tonight....

In the BIOS, the computer doesn't even recognize that a hard drive is attached (I messed with to boot order to see what I could do), the hard drive doesn't spin when I start it, and I even tried another power jumper.....

I'm assuming the disk is fried, so I'll need a new hard drive, and a new XP copy......

Marioville! Sports, Politics, Humor and more... / bluetooth headset

sorry, I'm a little crazy today, but I just realized what bluetooth headsets reminded me of...

File under: Changing Record Industry

Radiohead is releasing there next album on-line, and you are being asked to pay whatever you want.....they are no longer on a record lable, but they will release and expensive limited edition box set, and make money touring and merch....

Is this about it for record lables?

and I use it to make my own!

So, in honor of it's 20th birthday (!), I rescued one of my old boards from my parents' garage.  She's a custom I got made back in high school....I think a guy named Mike Stritch or something shaped it.  Very high volume for a 6' and pretty wide, so it will still float me.  You can't tell from the perspective of the photos, but the center point is pretty far back, and it really is an '80 shape.  Check out the pink and blue clarkfoam logo on the back, pink was very big back then.

I've got quite a few dings to fix-including a re-fix of a crappy old ding repair in the rail (which occurred the first day I had the board out and collided with an old longboarder), but the board is pretty solid..... it'll be fun.
