Anyone looking to live at the beach? 1 bedroom available in a 3BR house. 1 BR of the 3 will remain vacant. Beach block in Rockaway Park. Reach out if you have any interest. Off street parking is a possibility.

Since my last post:

0 on the treadmill
0 on the bike
0 in the pool
0 running

I am rotund and lazy sob.  I hope that I remember how to surf the next time I attempt it.

World Surf League Rules on Medina
Thursday, March 19, 2015
The World Surf League has released its official ruling on the actions made by reigning World Champion Gabriel Medina (BRA) following his Round 3 loss at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast to Glenn Hall (IRL).

Medina Draws Interference at Quik Pro
During Round 3 of the Quiksilver Pro, Medina incurred an interference penalty while Hall held priority.
The official statement is as follows:
The World Surf League (WSL) Rules and Disciplinary Committee has completed its investigation into the Medina/Hall incident from the Quiksilver Pro Gold MedinaHall.jpg
Efforts were made post-incident to clear the air between Medina (right) and Hall
Coast. Following conversations with both parties involved as well as reviewing broadcast footage, the Rules and Disciplinary Committee has determined that Medina was in violation of the athlete Code of Conduct and has been fined as a result. Medina's efforts following the incident to amend any public misperceptions about his and Hall's relationship have been noted and appreciated. We wish all competitors good fortune at the upcoming Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach.

Medina and Hall quickly made peace following the incident in the competitor's area. The Brazilian Champ also appeared on the WSL Dawn Patrol Show the following morning to address his on-camera conduct.

Medina appears on WSL Dawn Patrol during the Quiksilver Pro to clear the air.
Medina and Hall are already focusing energy on stop No. 2 of the Samsung Galaxy Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. Medina will face rookie Matt Banting (AUS) and a yet to be determined wildcard in Round 1, Heat 6. Hall will take on Joel Parkinson (AUS) and Quiksilver Pro Semifinalist Miguel Pupo (BRA) in Round 1, Heat 9.

Don't miss the action LIVE on the World Surf League homepage beginning April 1.

Saw some rideable wind slop in Playa del Carmen, but nothing to write home about or bother pay a board fee for.

Glen Hall had priority.

Priority
The surfer with priority has the unconditional right of way to catch any wave they choose. Other surfers in the heat can paddle for, and catch, the same wave, but only if they do not hinder the scoring potential of a surfer with priority. A surfer loses priority once they catch a wave and/or a surfer paddles for but misses a wave. If two or more surfers catch a wave, the first surfer to make it to the take-off zone will get priority.

I would have certainly called an interference if I was a scoring judge.  Glen Hall's right was unconditional and Medina had no right to be where he was.

I would think that if Samsung is spending the amount of money to get THAT many people onto their ad books, they would want to be damn well sure to REACH those people, especially those with their own branded devices. Having and error come up that tells you to use an iPhone or something to watch the streams is a big blunder. I have an inkling that the WSL will be working with Samsung and Google(Android) at breakneck speed to correct this and have a new format setup before the next contest that will be available to their devices, along with iPhones, LG's and others.

Uh, they don't NEED to reach the Samsung users.   ::) ::) ::)

Hurricane swell about 15 years ago.  Surfing at a beach well west of NSSS. Took off on my longboard. Ate it bad and as Looseness described, was dragged by my board, underwater behind the wave for what seemed like forever.  I was convinced that I would not be able to surface.  Then my leg was no longer being pulled and I "swam" to the surface.  Unfortunately swimming is not really effective in the soup and I was just barely able to get my head above the surface just long enough to gasp a breath and see another wave about to land on me.  I was once again dragged and when I finally got released from that wave I was close enough to the beach to kind of bounce off the bottom and get to dry land.  I went in and called it a day.

Classic voice. Rest in Peace.

He lost it in a bet circa 2003.

Am I crazy or how does a 3 mile Boardwalk just a little ways west cost $480 million when the long beach 2.2 mile Boardwalk cost $40 million. Is the last .8 miles made of gold?

Yep.

The City of Long Beach did not require study upon study to determine the what needed to be built.  The City of Long Beach did not decide to remove all of the support structure that had been holding up the boardwalk for 75 years.  The City of Long Beach did not decide to rebuild the boardwalk with new and untested structures. The City of Long Beach simply replaced their boardwalk.  The City of Long Beach had their boardwalk back in place on the first anniversary of Hurricane (NOT superstorm) Sandy.  New York City did not have a completed plan in place on the 2nd anniversary.
the above underlined is what worries me.  two years in, the concrete is spalling around the concessions & ramps in Rock.  the lifeguard shacks started falling apart the moment they went up.  Tons of the new material is rusting (railings, benches - and I don't think that's the intended look). I fear what it's all gonna look like 5 years in, and the expense & ongoing effort it's going to take to fix & maintain since they seem to have used marine-grade nothing.

Your worries are the same as mine, hence the reason that I listed it.  I have no doubt that concrete CAN last for an extended period, however the concrete has to be the correct mix and more importantly, it has to be maintained PROPERLY!!  I foresee snow/ice removal in the future being sped up by the methods used by the Parks Dept.  The lack of routine maintenance and repairs will be a significant problem as well.  As soon as budget comes into the question, the boardwalk will be forgotten.  How many times, in the past have we seen stairs simply closed or broken/loose deck planks just left, rather than being repaired in a timely manner.

I guess we will have to see what happens in 30, 40, 50 years.

Well I shared a 5-6 hour session with onefin today and I can say that I haven't been that cold in a very long time as well.  Unfortunately we did not see any waves.

But we did see a guy walking down East 53rd Street brushing his teeth.   :o
