Travel restrictions will soon be gone. It's a big ole island, albeit not in the best spot. Still, I've always wanted to go and figure if I do, bringing a board down there might be worth it for the experience.

Has anyone ever been?

I mean what am I doing out there? What's the point?  ;)

Hey All,

So my buddy Ben and his friends are hosting an event for his new company, Bureo Skateboards, tonight at Pilgrim from 7-9pm. They'll be screening there documentary film and it should be a good time. Plus Montauk Brewing Co. will be there with, from what I've been told, free beer.

The company is pretty rad too - they recycle collected trash found on the beaches of Chile and make them into skateboards. So if you're around - come on down - have a drink, watch a vid, and say hi to Uncle Badfish while you're there.

Marioville! Sports, Politics, Humor and more... / Pete Seeger

I don't really like to venerate celebrities but, to my heathen self, Pete was damn near Christ-like. I was tempted to say the world is in a worse place now that he's not here but then I began to think of all the people who might discover Pete due to the coverage of his death and maybe, with some luck, one of them will end up making this world an even better place by learning from one of the best.

Anyone know of any website with some good surf related deals? I'm at work so don't have too much time to search but looking to buy a few things still.

I don't even know what to say to this:

Not sure if anyone else saw but I guess someone decided, hey let's leave about 10 mangled, newly sharpened sticks in the water before pumping sand over them. I'm sure it'll take a bit before they reemerge but when they do, someone is going to be seriously injured and now there's not even a visual cue as to where they are.

So the goal was to remove the sticks to make the place safer and instead they did the exact opposite. The level of incompetency is beyond words at this point. In other news, my block still looks like brown trout and I haven't seen any work done on it since the storm.

Kurt just made the first link on the front page of reddit with this little stunt...and it didn't even involve cats (or a chicken/penguin hybrid).

The Rockaway to Long Beach Surf Connection / Beached Whale in Breezy

Finback? Something else?

Sadly, this probably won't end well but hopefully I'm proven wrong.

Marioville! Sports, Politics, Humor and more... / Crackie the Whale

I just did a google image search for Crackie the Whale (a TDR move if there ever was one) - no photo of Crackie himself but I'd say about 50% of the images are of Lindsay Lohan. It's the little things in life, I guess.

The Recovery Room / Help Map Surf Sickness

So I was asked to post this for a friend a while back and forgot but given the news of pumping sewage into the bay I figured I'd throw this link up. So people can report any (possibly) surf-borne illness they may get. I know, I know, I'm not thrilled with the surfline spot timeline on the left. Been trying to get it taken off actually but, yea, this could be useful.

Yet again my method of randomly guessing what time it is while surfing has caused me to be late to work and I'm reluctantly in the market for a watch. Any recommendations on a  ~$50 or less, cheap, waterproof watch with a decent band that won't scratch my board or break/fall off during one of my many wipeouts? I'm probably gonna go with a g-shock or ironman but figured I'd ask to see if anyone had any recommendations before doing so.

Just looking online through skyscanner, looks like some decent deals to both PR (>$300) and Nicaragua (~$350) for September. Not too bad if you're lookin to get away in the next few weeks.

Was out there yesterday when I saw a bunch of guards on the jetty looking towards the Box. One gave the sign and they ended up clearing out all the swimmers in the Box but, thankfully, let the surfers alone.

Does anyone know of any car services in Rock that will drive to Manhattan at night and the approximate cost? I've a few friends and friends of friends coming out this weekend and not enough space to house them all so I'm trying to figure out if they'll be able to get back while avoiding the 2 hour plus late night A train. I know it's not too difficult to do the Manhattan -> Rockaway trip at night but I suspect the opposite might encounter difficulties. Thankfully, I've a pretty bad case of the Hodges so I've never bothered to try. Thanks all!
