Title: The Dream Board Registry...what have you got your eye on?
Post by: Mayday on January 10, 2014, 11:30:10 AM
It's 2014, the holidays are over, you might have some extra cash in your pocket, and there's some new models out on the market.  So the question is, whats the dream board you're looking to pick up right this instant, that massive gap in your quiver you're looking to fill.  Include the following:

Manufacturer
Model
Size
Rider's height / weight / ability
Intended Conditions
Fin Setup

my board quiver is just fine for now. Might add another Takayama Scorpion type board from Kiernan at Haze before summer. Other than that i just want the boat

I can make myself anything I want.  One thing I do have my eye on though is a 10' Cooperfish.  Down side is I could build 6 boards for the cost of one Cooperfish.  :-\

Scott you know our tastes in boards only overlap somewhere in the longboard vicinity and barely in that. Me hating Fish, Hulls, Logs that actually noseride well.....BUT, I swapped my Takayama log for a few waves on a waist high day with Mark E who had his FLAT Hull creation out, and man I had a few super fun waves on that thing! It really GOES.

Just ordered a 6'8  Stretch 2x4 big brother to my 6'4 2x4 . This one has a " nathan Fletcher butt tail " and is more a big guy board . I generally rode pretty short boards for my age ( nothing like Bacon ) but wanted a traveller / paddler shortboard for windy walled up no corner waves like Hercules where I saw a few guys on big upsized boards get a few more corners . Generally In perfect spinning waves I like a smaller board to stay in the pocket . But in walled up " racey CLOSEOUTS " I'm re exploring more rail line to combat the hang in the lip air drop windy day deal

Needs Vs. wants.

Need: My 50th state quiver needs either a longboard built for some size, or something similar to the griffin rocket.  Too often under-gunned.  That would double said quiver.

Want: I certainly don't need another east coast all-arounder but the bottom contours on this board are ingenious.
^^ I'd like to get my hands on a McCoy for the same reason.

THe shipping costs are probably a bit prohibitive though.

Oh and since I'm feeling chatty I would like to have a Tomo. A sci phi or one of those more rounded squashes he's doing. Or heck, maybe a golden mean. BUT the range that they tend to shine in is already covered.

Agh. Whatever. I'd like to surf. Enjoy NJ tomorrow.

-Andreini glider or maybe a Vaquero, although I still haven't had a chance to get this Liddle Inbetweener out, so maybe the Vaq would be overlap.

-John Cherry Simm-21, just for kicks.

-Fat, wide Hanel fish.

Nosemanual, my understanding is that those two hills are different beasts. I imagine the liddle is more foiled and likely narrower?

I'm looking at a 7' alb. Air lubricated bottom, by my friend Scott Raymond Henry with a 5 fin set up.  There are 2. Holes going from the top of the board on an angle into a concave bottom.  It's supposed to send a bit of air to the bottom of the board and make it faster and looser. I haven't decided if I want poly or epoxy yet.

Never thought I would need one of these, but being in my 40s, and having the older S Cal surfer/shop owner talk incessantly about how good it was, I grabbed one of these.

It doesn't like 30 kt offshores, but when you're up and riding the freaking board flies.

Hey Kyle,

Yeah, I think normally they are, especially with Liddle's more foiled, wide-point-forward hulls.  The Inbetweener, and particularly the one I have, is more mellow.  The nose is pulled in, it's a 2+1 to make going backside easier, it's 22.5" wide, not as bladey, etc.  It's made for more for beach breaks and the guy I bought it from said this one was shaped specifically for east coast waves.  It still has belly and s-deck and (I'm hoping) the Liddle magic.  The Vaquero is supposed to be easier to ride, maybe a little more forgiving and versatile.  My buddy recently got an Inbetweener and he rides it all the time here, for what it's worth.

Anybody else have either board and wanna weigh in?

Oh and by the way, hulls don't work on the east coast.   :D

Nope, didn't get it from Mike (Mike from Mollusk?).  Maybe the one you mentioned was the one that was for sale here a while ago?  I think that was way more foiled than mine.  If I'm not mistaken, the guy I got it from--his name was Tim--had another one for sale, too.  Think it was the same board, but was a single fin instead of 2+1.

BTW, been riding a hull all week at south pt in Barbados. Will put it in mothballs upon my return until next year. Much rather ride a high volume short board in a beach break, because hulls are not easy to ride.

I actually loved my Superbuzz, just tweaked some stuff to keep it consistent with other Stretch  boards I have. The Super works really well on the East Coast, don't be afraid of how small it is. Stretch and Dave are great to work with, and will dial you in. I got rid of mine to fund 2 more boards from Stretch.

One of the boards coming is the new Buzz Grovler. It's a super with some adjustment for better groveling. I personally felt that the super went great in the small stuff, so this could even be better. The differences are thicker rail, concave deck, 1/4" narrower tail block, thicker foil through tail, deeper single concave, flatter rocker under front foot, thicker rail.

Also getting a buzz saw because Dorado loves it and he's pickier than me.

Yep.  If I had the dough...

But, I really love my Bing Trimulux.  Such a fun board for our waves.  It has almost no nose rocker, blended concave, paddles great, surfs a few inches shorter than it is.  Matt Calvani knows what he's doing.

Love my Stretch Longbuzz.  Was exactly what Dorado said it would be....a perf oriented long fish.  But what I love the most is the construction.  It is absolutely bullet proof.  I stepped on it with both feet hammered one night in my garage and not even a scratch!
