that is awesome. the video is worth a look. i'm still not sure how far along they are and how much funding they have, and i suspect his economics are off, but i hope beyond hope 1) this works and 2) it gets off the ground.

This was released 6 mos. ago so not sure how much traction its gotten but totally agree that this guys on the right track . Any other clean up organizations in line with his theories ?

Most of the sea born plastics are in the vertical water column, which his thing does not address .  Also the really small stuff will escape to continue on to the food chain......but, the major issue is one of scale, the ocean is so big and his sweeper so small.      However, it's an interesting attempt.
