  • any solutions short of a cage for soft tops? If you do have a cage, how do you go about pulling back  the soft top?

never found anything other than cage.   and i dont know of one that is that good but i think there is one out there that sort of has quick release pins on front and just folds back.

good luck.  also lame how there are still to this day no snowboard racks for the hard top or tires. you's think they would have that by now for this demographic.

mostly though for top down i go longboard over roll bar and use straps around back roll bar and then around the front, through the glove box handle, through the window ubolt near top of windshield and back around  board.  rock solid.    but yeh, if it rains..

  • Not sure if that was a typo but my rack set up for hard top in winter is just fine (Thule cross bar with footers that attach to the rain gutters). The soft top situation blows. I'm fine with boards in car for day to day but doesn't work for summer road trips

  • for soft top if you are justin headin to MTK etc then just rack em on the roll bar and hope no rain.  when you get  there store your boards and put softtop back on (or tarp).  thats what i did many times.

my issue with hard top rack, even via thule, is the 2 door jeep doors rain gutters seems too little space to gap two bars for a longboard yes no?   maybe you have a 4 door?

  • I have a safari rack that should fit a CJ or YJ (square headlight jeep) .  Not sure which one it fits.  I think it has all the parts and bolts to the windshield frame and have to drill holes behind the tail lights.  If anyone needs it, let me know.  With the older jeeps the top folds down without flipping up so the rack isn't in the way.  I think the top design changed in '96.
