  • It would be interesting to see Powell there but what would that say for accountability.

I think it means that Berry thinks Powell could be Sec Def or some other high level cabinet post and do very well, but that any such appointment would require looking past his speech to the UN and his capitulation to and complicity with the neocon plan for Iraq.

  • ^ What Bubba said but also this.
Powell did not serve his president or country by capitulating to the Chennye/Rove machine. He went quietly into the night when yelling, shouting and raising the red flag about what was going on in the the BUSH Whitehouse was called for.

Not that I wanted to save Bush, I don't, but I would have liked to save the country and the lives of thousands of Americans that have lost their lives in Iraq.

A Cabinet members primary job is to tell the president the truth, not want his handlers want him to hear. Powell eff' up!

Understood.  HOWEVER, remember Powell's career path.  He was military and as such did the biding of his Commander in Chief.  Do you think he didn't make his reservations about Iraq well known in the White House.  I applaud the man for walking away when he couldn't abide by what was going on.

  • Don't get me wrong I like Powell, talk about a really impressive personality, resume, character I could go on here but you get the point.

That said don't take a job you can't do. He was not a General at the table, he was a member of the Cabinet and unlike the pedestrians at that table, Powell had an intimate understanding of  war and the fog that often surrounds it.

There is one thing I really don't like about Powell and it was his mis handling of the Haiti political crisis in 2004.

Agreed.  I see Cabinet posts as senior advisors.  As I said earlier, I'm relatively certain the Powell made his reservations well know to the President.  Cabinet Secretaries advise and the final decision rests on the President, whether we are talking about war or economy.  The way I see it, when he felt that he was no longer able to advise effectively he left.  I can not fault him for that.  I would love to see him back at the table.

  • Hey I'm not saying it would upset me to see him at the table again, I would just want him steam cleaned, to get the Bush Stains out. It would show the "crossing party lines" thingy in a really clever and interesting way.

I'm pulling for Corzine, just out of pure Jersey pride (stupid, I know, but its not like the guy doesn't have the chops for the job).
