i feel like sybil. i'm fully expecting to wake up to a 4th ny surfing site, with further re-incarnations of the local crew.
RD and i are back from the cape. talk about aloha. you can actually walk into a local surf shop and be greeted with a smile and told where the best breaks are. actually, before we even got there, my mother had already ferreted this information out of the lifeguards. go mom.
before we even hit the water, RD had purchased a sick Foxy 6'1" thruster, the "Wave Weapon." it is as 80s as you can get, pretty much the color of a full set of highlighters. 1 beautifully repaired ding and some sticker gumminess, but otherwise perfection for $150. there may be a skirmish or 2 over Foxy once caine season hits.
wellfleet's waves are completely tidal, so after some guesstimating, we figured out that about 2 hours prior to low would be when the sandbars would start breaking. we scored some excellent waves on saturday, i pulled off some neat top turns early on in the session and by days end was so tired i could hardly pop-up. RD killed it on Red Rocket, my 7'2" single fin, he really works those 50/50 rails to his advantage. sundays waves were pretty awful, but today it picked up again. we tried a different break, and for about 20 minutes we pretty much had it all to ourselves. before i had even made it into the water, RD dropped into a chest high peeler, carved his way down the line, and garnered the applause of some old biddies monitoring the action. it was a fun session, crumbly as usual though, and a bit more crowded with some local teenage shortboarders. one gidget completely stuffed RD and then paddled back out as if nothing had happened...i was ready to take her down but RD turned the other cheek so i followed suit. didn't stop us from talking rather pointedly about a certain chick's poor manners.
all in all, a fun time, plenty of waves, lots of good vibes in the water, and endless sweet treats supplied by my aunt harriet.
