  • Shipping costs play a role in the cost as well..and while there's still some margin, I don't think anyone is retiring on the profits anytime soon.

  • Last month, I was down by Fort Lauderdale and we ended up in the shopping area that has that huge Ron Jon surf shop...I didn't see a single bar of wax.

  • I think its probably a loss for the shops once you factor in shipping.  necessary cost of business though.  how can you not carry it?  I think I've been to that Ron Jon store and don't remember seeing wax there either.  It was in a mall really far from the beach.  It was more like one of the "surf shops" in Manhattan.  I did score some 3/2s for the girls though.  :)

look around, look around, look around. all around, all around, all around

Maybe they are talking about manufacturing to store. 5cents to make it but by the time its sold it goes for 1$.  (Whats the key command for cents?)
    Trust in the board.

  • Well, I can't imagine wax is tremendously expensive to make. So there's got to be a decent markup on it.

The most expensive wax I've seen was some organic stuff that was like $20 per bar, not including shipping.

  • the only people making money off of wax are the manufacturers. When I managed a shop out east for several summers, keeping a full bucket of wax was a necessity. It was always there when a surer needed to pop in for a quick bar, and someone coming in for just a bar of wax would often leave the store with considerably more products.

  • around here they sell it at the hardware store

I do recall a brisk trade of Sex Wax and Bubble Gum branded Ts, hats and stickers back in the 80s. A Dr. Zogs T shirt -that was the mark of a true poser back then
