  • Has anybody dealt with an allergy related to some of the chemical ingredients used to make wetsuits (Carba Mix / Thiourea)? I have been dealing with this for a number of years, the worst happening when I wear gloves and boots, and finally went to an allergist to find out what I pretty much already knew.

Wow - I know there are allergies to latex, but you're the first I've ever heard of with a direct allergy to wetsuit chemicals. Did the Doc give you any solution? Is there any brand that you've found you're able to wear?

  • Patagonia started working with a company called Yulex which makes various plant-based rubbers, and now they have a wetsuit model that's a bit more organic. Not sure if it would avoid the things you're allergic to, but possibly worth a look. Good luck.

  • Best argument I've seen for a lamb skin wetsuit.
I need the sea because it teaches me.

  • I was actually able to get in touch with someone from the design department at Patagonia and she sent me a swatch of the Yulex to test with. fingers crossed. They plan to start selling the Yulex material in boots and gloves for 2017.
