Well, that's the coldest I've been in the water in a while

  • I think it may take a couple of days for my big toes to fully recover. Ouch.

Got an hour in the water in someplace west of jones but east of rockaway this morning. Crowd was no factor.  ;)   Just Onefin and me - a couple of people a few jetties down, and one guy who paddled out just as my toes forced me out the water. Nice size, good shape and wonderfully rampy. 3 decent waves for me and 2 others that didn't go as well as I would have liked, but I'll take it. A baker's dozen or so for Onefin, including at least once nice coverup that I saw and I'm sure there were more.

As fun as it was, I still hold my longstanding position: I farking HATE February. I'm tired of being cold - I'm tired of debating whether I should go because I don't want to be cold, and I hate, hate hate walking away from perfectly good waves because I'm cold. Bring on spring - I'm ready - let's go.

Here's a quick snap I grabbed before I jumped in - nicely peaky and offshore:

  • I made it out solo at  Rockaway. There were a few good ones, not quite the size I thought it might be. A couple guys were coming in, and a couple guys in the water.

My right thumb got cold and went numb. I was okay everywhere else. I only lasted an hour and got a handful of waves. Then it was time to go back to surfing the Internet.

  • I managed to last almost two hours yesterday, but the cold plus the drift did me in today and I only lasted just over an hour. Sounds like I was right in your vicinity, @SeaCliff .

I'm almost hoping for bad winds tomorrow so I have an excuse to stay in a warm bed. My upcoming trip to CR can't happen soon enough ....

  • Got in for an hour and a half.  Decent size in the right spot.  Sick of the cold, especially when changing.  This one dude was charging without a hood on the whole time he was out, no idea how...

T-minus 1 month till 12 days in warm CR though.

  • I lasted longer on the second session around 1pm. Maybe 2 hours. The sun helped.

  • Did two great sessions on Tues and felt fine about life.

Afternoon session on Wed made me seriously question everything.

  • Well I shared a 5-6 hour session with onefin today and I can say that I haven't been that cold in a very long time as well.  Unfortunately we did not see any waves.

But we did see a guy walking down East 53rd Street brushing his teeth.   :o
