After dealing with recurrent ear infections and denying the fact that my ears are messed up, I went to ENT this summer and got the news that my left ear is 90% closed and my right ear is about 75% closed due to bone growth from surfer's ear.


The surgery seems pretty invasive and I remember reading that there were doctors on the west coast the use a CHISEL to remove the bone and this is less invasive than folding the outer ear off drilling the growths out.


DOES ANYONE know of an ENT in the NY are that does this type of surgery?  I found one guy in NJ but he does not accept my insurance.

Unless you really really need it, try to put it off. plugs + hood + alcohol and vinegar drops after every surf.

just had mine done in mid august.  went really well.  recovery was really nothing tbh.  i do have a very high tolerance to pain though (way too many surgeries)


Dr. Smouha did mine out of Mt. Sinai eye and ear infirmary in the city. has an office in melville


Have another surgery scheduled on Monday.. not surfers ear though. this is to fix my hearing.  but he couldn't see my eardrum b4 so had to take care of my surfers ear first

Don't put anything in your ears (alcohol/vinegar) that can't find its way out. I have kept my surfer's ear at bay with silicone plugs.

Getting old sucks... I remember guys talking about ear surgery, hip problems and the dreaded shoulder problems.


Well I had rotator cuff surgery a month ago and been out of the water since July, if everything goes right I may be in the water by April. I can’t hear as well and I’m sure that’s next.


Listen to the advice-stretch, ear plugs, be healthy etc...
