Summer 2005: how does it measure up?

  • OK guys,

I had a crap summer of surfing, I've been in the water between 5 and 7 times since memorial day, and not on the best days, so I'm curious.  Hopefully we're moving into real hurricane season now, and we'll see some sizeable swells coming through.  In summers past I feel like a few good head-high days have snuck through in June and July, but if they were there this year, I missed-em.  I got a few "shoulda been here yesterdays" each time out, and it seems like the last week in July was solid.  I want stories/gloating!

iYho: What were the best days this summer, and how did it rate overall?

  • yea last summer was better.  we had the run in August were it was decent for a couple of weeks, not because of storms but because persistent bermuda high with light winds here, i think.  but yea this summer has been bad.  thinking we should get some pay back in fall and winter, which would be even better
    howdy

  • well summer sucks generally.  But looking back historically on the period from June 1st to Aug 13th, we usually get about 40 days of brown trout, 26 rideable days, around 6 chest high and clean, and 1 good head high maybe plus day.  This year: 45 flat, 24 rideable, 4 fun, 1 good.  So overall in my book we're running about 86% of normal cumulative rideable days.  I'd give it a C-/D+ depends on how hard your curve is i suppose.

    also i think we're spoiled cause last year broke down into 39, 25, 9, & 1..
