• Our coastlines will be very different places come morning. This is not going to be easy or fun, but it is comforting to know the types of communities many of these coastal towns are.

• I heard word that the MTA -A train bridge that connects Howard Beach and Rockaway is submerged.

If that's true Rockaway is submerged. Also that bridge doesn't exist. Howard beach and broad channel or broad channel and Rockaway.

Either way, hope that's not the case.

• NY Times reported it like this.

The North Channel bridge, which takes the A train from Howard Beach, Queens, across the island of Broad Channel and into the Rockaways, was submerged by Jamaica Bay shortly before 7 p.m., a Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman reported on Twitter. Andy Newman

Also, NJ Burket  on Channel 7 reporting from Allegra hotel few minutes ago.   Said 'the hotel is an Island, National Blvd. is a river straight to Ocean.' Took the news folks 2.5 hours to get a cell phone connection to call in.   Totally cut off out there.  Damn...Hope this is the worst for you guys.

• I abandoned ship from the walks around 3. My block never floods but I figured the power would be out either way.

Word is west end is under water, walks has water in plenty of places and the canals are fucked.

Yes - the west end was under about 4 ft on my block (Louisiana) as of 8PM or so according to a neighbor - we're pretty much the center of town on the ocean side - if we're flooded, the whole damned West End is flooded.

I'm up north in Sea Cliff - high tide here is about midnight, and my house is about 250 yards from the harbor. the noon high tide breached the sea wall on Shore Road, low tide at 6 looked like high tide - not sure what to expect, but whatever it is, it is. Tomorrow we begin the cleanup.

True indeed, my apologies and thoughts going out to all my friends and fam on the barrier islands. It seems pretty preposterous, just hoping for the best here.

• My Folks live on Olive just off National. worst flooding there since...ever.. That is a high point on the island and water is up to mid doors on the cars....in the driveway, not the street. Dad reports a 8-9kt rip down the street with "large items floating down the street".
If its like that there, it worse elsewhere in LB. Really really bad.
Ocean water and sewage coming up through basement toilets and from all around in many homes.
Stay safe everyone.
I'll remind everyone before traipsing through high water when the storm passes, remember downed powerlines may have electrified it-- people die every year this way. Be CAREFUL.
Reports from a friend in an apt bldg east end of LB with a view of the seawall around Lido Towers---- ocean easily over the dunes and seawall....nuts
