  • I have had my mind blown by the Patagonia gloves
Last year made it through all but the below 20degree days in a pair of patagonia R3s , not even their thickest model.
(I used Mittens for below 20)

impressed me enough that I bought the whole suit a few weeks ago.
..Whore it to death then sell the corpse on Craigslist... (used to be Ebay but eff Ebay and Paypal)

  • I have the Xcel drylock mittens and they are an absolute nightmare taking on and off.  The suction feature is great.....however good luck getting it on/off over your wintersuit.  I put tears in mine just wrestling with it.  Don't think I'll get anything drylock again on the sheer inconvenience factor.

  • just got new 5mm excel drylock lobster claws.  initial impressions are that they are much improved from the older vintage (which i found hard to get on/off; and i tore in the middle of the palm).  much easier time getting them on/off--i think largely due to them using thinner neoprene around the wrist.  the roll-up method worked nice and easy.

cesar, maybe you meant to say otherwise, but why are you putting them over your wetsuit?

  • Sorry meant to say otherwise.  I'll try your roll up method......maybe that's the trick.  In terms of performance they do work great.

  • I'm happy with my Rip Curl lobsta claws. Comfy. Easy on and off but nothing too fancy. Had them all last winter and had no problems except for sweaty hands.

  • Maybe I'm just a spaz but I have put big tears in the Drylocks, also in the Patagonia R3 gloves.  I liked those a lot but mittens just keep me warmer, and they don't hurt when it comes to paddling.  I did just notice that Patagonia makes boots, too.  And I'd love an R2 fullsuit (I was just trying to write "fullsuit" but I mistakenly typed "fullshit" ha ).  I rolled up the Xcels too and that helped, but trying to do anything with mittens on is a lesson in patience, which I don't have, apparently, judging by the tears.

The Rip Curl mittens just looked more solid somehow.  Whatever.  I'll just get 'em and see.

    Thanks for all the input.
