  • Up now in the galleries!

After my amateurish debacle this weekend trying my best to get some shots of the ESA contest myself (photos to follow Tuesday, you'll see what I mean! LOL!! ), I have even greater appreciation for Bob's work...hope you guys do too!

From the main page, click on "Galleries"....enjoy! And thanks, Bob!!

  • Dang man, do you have anything in magazines yet? you should send some to some surf Mags, If you get good shots of BBers I might be able to hook you up with a BBing mag outta Hawaii. If you have a cuple of Samples, I can send 1 or 2 his way & see what he says. Maybe at least for the experience or your portfolio.

  • hate to be the lone dissenter, but i wasn't impressed.  need to zoom out for sure (some are fine in this, alot aren't, overall your shots seem to err on the side of too much zoom)--you can't get much of an idea of the wave.  maybe this is just my personal preference but i like to see as much of the wave as possible, especially if it's a somewhat less than eye-popping move (as they usually are on LI/NJ).  seems the shots are a tick or two off right timing though, as i think snapwater mentioned back on nysurf once.  you don't surf right?  maybe you should grab a board off one of the rockaway guys and try sometime, with the aim (hopefully) of getting a better sense of surf timing.  that or you could just get a subscription to a mag and check their shots.  overall good stuff though, great effort, just think they could be a tad better.  cheers!

I dont use zoom lenses for my suurf shots and sometimes I dont care to carry more than one lens, considering they average  between 6 and 8 lbs each.
Zooms are ok for general shooting, but nothing has the sharpness and contrast of a  single focal length prime lens.
If the waves are bombing, I do back up, and show more wave, but on chest/headhigh, I 'd just as soon shoot tight.
Sometimes my timing is off, but I sure that will improve in time.
No way I can surf, as I have bad arthritis in the elbows and shoulders and never would survive the paddeling.
