  • New guidance out puts the track of Irene a little further East by about 25 miles or so. What's that mean? It means that Irene really doesn't weaken much over North Carolina(might even stenghten over the Pamlico sound). Also, means that their might not be any glancing blow over the Delmarva nor over Southern NJ. So, Irene will slam in NJ's LOng Beach Island and then travel almost uninterrupted to the Nassau county. On this track, LB, lido, Atlantic beach is really ground zero. YOU NEED TO TAKE THIS VERY SERIOUSLY! significant beach erosion, washovers, back bay flooding and a crappy sewage system wich overfloweeasily in this area will make this a once ina  lifetime event. when in doubt, get out.

  • thank you duke for those words of reason.

if anyone in the rock or in lb has a generator and will be powering a fridge/freezer, i have a huge favor to ask. i need to save a stash of expressed and frozen breast milk that i need to feed my baby when i go back to work. if we lose power, even layering ice around the milk isn't going to save it from melting after a day. it is basically a shoebox full of liquid gold and i would literally pay to save it. it has taken a lot of effort to get even the relatively small amount of milk i have frozen.  if anyone can help out pm or if you have my contact info please call me. THANKS!!!!!

sorry for TMI, but i needed to throw this out there.

  • Looks like we are taking a direct hit here in NJ. As much as I've bashed and trashed the ACOE and beach replenishment efforts in the past I might have to say thank you after this one. I'll be staying here in LBI until tomorrow at least to help tighten things down with a few friends and get our rescue gear in order at the lifeguard garage. Be safe guys, LBI bridge will open in both directions until 4PM Saturday I hear.

O yea surf was kinda fun today, good way to take the stress off for a few.

    Peace,
    Kyle

  • Don't be embarrassed. There's nothing embarrassing about feeding your baby and feeding them the best source of nutrition available. I'm not going to go overboard with a lactivist rant, but other people need to be more comfortable with what is natural and normal for human babies. If I were living out in Rock and my child were younger I'd be asking the same thing.

  • Hopefully it will not be as bad as they say it will be. The shelves are quickly emptying. I actually bought water by work yesterday because I was afraid that they would be out of it in rockaway. We will see what happens. Im just happy I dont have to tie anything down. Just prep the windows and terrace door and Im done

  • duke 10 points for using crappy to describe our sewer system.  As I pointed out to Snaggle on the way to the beach this am, the sewer drains are only two-three feet from the street level with stagnant water.  Mix a N wind, some driving rain and a high tide and you will get water flowing out of the sewer on to the street.

  • Be safe everyone.  Crossing my fingers that everyone makes it out relatively unscathed.  Seriously though, if people need a place to stay or something, I can probably hold one or two people.  I'm also out of work early today and can possibly help with any efforts.  My # is 917.873.4220.
