  • We found a syringe with a bloody mixture in it and the needle still attached in the sand yesterday.  I haven't seen one on the beach in a very long time so lets hope it was an isolated incident.  NYCWO and Gotham, it was where our kids have been digging and playing for the past month, just barely under the boardwalk at 91st under the ramp where we lock up our bikes.  There were 2 kids sitting right next to it.   >:( >:( >:(

  • Oh no. Really sorry to hear about that - a bazillion people around that spot all weekend, glad your kids didnt get stuck, and hope no one else did, and didnt even realize it (it would be easy to assume you stepped on a shell, wouldnt it...) - wonder if we need to inform any authorities....

  • Seacliff, we called Al and he was getting someone to deal with it when we left.  I forgot what his exact position is, but he's the head lifeguard or something.  He's been there forever, so I'm sure he knows what to do.  We wanted to make sure someone disposed of it properly instead of just tossing it into the garbage.  WTF is wrong with people??

  • Hang out there a couple of nights with baseball bats and beat the snot out of the junkies until they realize that's not a safe place for them to shoot up anymore.
I'm looking for experiences, not happiness.

  • Absolutely disgusting. Die junkies! Die!  >:(

We all have bad habits, but most of us don't place others at risk through them. This is inexcusable and dangerous. May the needle dropping junkies die quickly of overdose or blood borne diseases.

  • It might be good to bring this up at the next 100th Precinct command meeting on Wednesday, June 25th. 7pm, Knight of Columbus.

They won't have anymore meeting until September so making some noise about it now will be the time to possibly get this addressed.

  • Thats effed up,
I remember years ago some young dudes were camping out under the boardwalk. One day one of them ran out to the lifeguard chair and told us that his boy had just OD'd.
For some reason junkies come to R*ckaway Beach to do there junk. like to pay homage to The Ramones or some sh*t.

I don't think that they should die - they just need treatment.
The needles should be properly disposed of and not be a risk to the children or anybody else for that matter, totally effed up situation.
It sucks that New York City is still a drug infested jungle, even though the crime rate has fallen so much.

  • Last time I saw one was o 9/11/02 at LB. Obviously unpleasant, but a serious medical question for Mario, SC and other healthcare folks:

AIDS/HIV contamination is a non-concern once blood hits O2 for a few seconds, right? How about Hepatititis? Tetnis? What else are the serious/likely concerns that one has if, G*d forbid, one is stuck with a needle, and what does one do? Get every precautionary shot in the arsenal at the ER or ...I dunno????

    Hard science pls.

  • Yea.This is big time scary.I saw the blood myself.Alot of children play there by the skate park.I think if the 100 pricent knows about this, they could and would patrol at least that area a little more.

  • I have found a bunch guarding over the years, but they were all water logged syringes that were obviously medical waste as opposed to the fresh junkie stuff thats in Rock. My suspition is, if its fresh out of the arm of a junkie its probally a hell of allot more dangerous then a syringe from a hospital that has been floating around for a week or 2.
