ESA STRIKES AGAIN!!

  • The Cape Hatteras Surfing America Prime has been scheduled for almost a year.  THEN last week the ESA Scheduled it's South East Regionals to directly conflict with that event forcing the kids and parents to choose?  Clearly not in the kids best interest, so Surfing America, in a good faith effort to alleviate the conflict cancels Hatteras?  Debbie Hodge is a bitch on wheels.  NO WAY should they pull stunts like this.  Just when things have quited down she stirs it right back up with some horseshit like this.  No way am I or my family renewing our ESA memberships, and I am advising other parents to see this for what it is.  Petty politics in Surfing, and not passing the stoke.

Debbie Hodges has done everything in her power to frustrate kids from the ESA surfing in Surfing America and the US Championships.  WHY?

  • It is so UN family friendly to "force" folks to make this kind of choice. In the end it works out better for us as a traveling family as we can get to the Prime and NSSA in one shot but it is obvious that ESA has no respect for the competition families as a whole. They need to cooperate as all major organizations do. They need to raise their bar of professionalism.

  • That's BULLshit!!  Anyone know how to get Debbie Hodge's email address to email her a link to this thread?

Just knowing she KNOWS everyone's opinion could be justifying enough at the least.

Who knows.  Maybe a new organization will step in an fill the void.   ;)

As to sending a link.......... waste of time and you can rest assured that someone will direct them to it sooner rather than later.

    competitions ruined surfing

seriously? maybe for you. not for everyone.
some people don't like competition, some do.
I personally like being challenged to raise my level of performance by good surfers, generally outside of an organized contest, but I have been in a number of contests going all the way back to....well a long time ago in OC MD, ESA contests there. Always had a good time. I like following the ASP. If someone wants to be a "soul surfer", surf alone, ride whatever kind of board they want to ride in any style they want to, they still can. So I'm curious how "competitions ruined surfing".
It's no better to be safe than sorry....

  • I'm disheartened by these events, but I'm a huge supporter of competition on all levels. I'm definitely planning on supporting any organization that steps in to fill the void.

  • Hmmmmmm, wondering why the invite letters to the Prime series on September 28, said the dates for Hatteras were TBD?  Perhaps the statement that the date was set almost a ago was not quite accurate.  How can the dates have been scheduled for 6 months (that would have been mid August) per the letter from Mr. Greg Cruse on Feb 16 if they weren't scheduled on September 28?

Mr. Forkin's (aka Masochist) post is definitely questionable at best.

And as for Florida, if homework was done ahead of time then it would have been known that the registration was needed in order to get the permit and there wouldn't have been a problem.

  • Kirk, spin it any way you want; but it doesn't make it true.  It's been public knowledge for months WHEN the Hatteras Prime was to take place and Debbie intentionally scheduled the Southern Regionals on that date to conflict the kids.  How is that opinion "questionable at best"?  As for "homework being done"?  Florida Prime is NOT the issue, it is happening at a different location due to permits draging due to State budget cuts and personnel layoffs, which now unfortunately exist in every State.

It's a simple fact, that Debbie Hodge has railed against the Surfing America, pulling out of Surfing America without at least polling the membership, or having her directors actively discouraging kids NOT to compete in the Prime. The way she acted toward me and some other parents for disagreeing with her was "hateful".  Am i not entitled to an opinion as a Surfer and a parent?  I know what goes on down there in South Jersey and waht was said to kids to have them not to Surf the Prime.  It's wrong, plain and simple.

  • It should always be about the kids and only the kids!!!  Props to Surfing America seeing this and doing right by the kids , canceling their Hatteras event so the kids don't have to choose.  It's disappointing we won't be going to Hatteras!  But it goes to show you that Surfing America are the good guys here and they definitely are thinking of our kids best interest and keeping them stoked!  As for when exactly the Prime event in Hatteras was scheduled, it was at least before ESA scheduled their event.  And those of us who do the Prime knew about it long enough to make plans already.  So it being 6 months or two months or whatever, shouldn't matter, what matters  is ESA had to know about it when they made their decision to run their event the same weekend anyway.  Don't think the director is even on a "soccer mom" category because even they are about the kids best interest and clearly that's not true here.
