  • Happy and I were heading to my house after injecting Bubba with the insulin. As we're walking along Shore Front Pkwy, nearing the corner of 91st, we came across what seemed to be an abandoned Mistral windsurfer board without a sail. We were all "what the eff is this?" and thinking that maybe it would be fun to have access to a windsurfer in the hood. At this point, I knew that tim was working on boards, and I said "if this board is still there in the AM, we should take it over to the Bodega." I wouldn't mind windsurfing on a flat & windy day.

Still, Happy and I are still a bit curious about the board and its orgins and what the eff it was doing on the grass patch next to the vacant lot on the corner of Shore Front & 91st. So, just as Happy went in for a closer look, and we hear from a car window parked on Shore Front; "Hey! You leave that alone!" Mind you, it is about 11pm so this woman was sleeping in her car and apparently her only surfboard is an 12 Ft Mistral Windsurfer without a sail.

Now, is that a Rockaway moment or what?

  • She must be waiting for early early DP, right?  She's gone by the time anyone else gets to the beach.  I bet if you looked through the surfcam archives you'd see her out there at first light, roundhousing, cross stepping, noseriding the 12' Mistral with no sail.  By 5:55 she's paddled back to her lair in Coney Island

  • The daggar board helps hold a line...  Plus, you can yank it out and use it as a paddle, polynesian style.

  • I think I saw her yesterday, sleeping in the back seat of her car.  The board, though, was tied to the roof of the car.  Note, I said tied-not strapped.   The board was tied down using blue nylon twine.  You know the stuff.  The white version is what is available to tie things down at Home Depot.   It looked like she was living out of the car.  Or maybe she just keeps everything she might ever need in the car......like me ;D ;D

    Like This?

pretty much, but no center fin, and two big sidebite fins molded into the hull.

So heavy you can't even pick it up.

  • i was scared. the cracked out voice slurring from the car's depths sent shivers up me timbers. and i had touched the skeezy board so then i had to wash my hands.

RD's landlady brought the mystery gal a soda today. mary is nicer than saint theresa. and from what we heard, this woman isn't that old, but i think her effed up living situation may be taking its toll.

  • YES! Ive seen that lady, she has the foot binding off & she actually paddles around like a kook tring to surf it. I cant think of anything more boyant & she cannot get up on it. you shouldve looked at here in the eyes & side stepped slowly toward it with your index finger out untill you finally touch it. then when she realizes your working your way toward it, kick it over & run away.
