Fins and leashes in Carry-On bag??

  • Been travelling for many years however I have never attempted to put my fins and leashes in my carry-on bag.  For some reason I have a feeling that tsa will think they are "weapons" of some sort.  Anyone ever bring their fins and leashes as carry-on before??  Any problems??

  • I've never had a problem, but it did occur to me that it would seem odd to TSA. I've done it a bunch, though, and never been asked.

  • Had a prob with leashes on Jetblue.  They eventually let me thru with them but it took some convincing.  They also had a problem with tie-down straps i brought for the rental car.  That was a longer conversation.

  • Put a 3ml bottle KY in the bag with the leashes and tie down straps.  It will make it awkward enough that they may just wave you along.

I always put the tie downs inside my board bag. Figured no point in carrying them - if the boards don't make it, I don't need the tie downs.  ::)

  • Same thing happened to me in LIR jetblue, they opened the bag, counted, and felt around for any hidden boards.  Oh well.
No problems carrying on fins or leashes though.

I got hit the opposite way! Guy at JFK eyeballed my board bag and (correctly) surmised 2 boards. I TOLD the guy at LIR two boards, he charged me for one! Total crap shoot w/ JetBlue it seems ... at least when they get you it's not too much $$$.
