From the likes of this situation In a weird way I'm glad I no longer live at the beach . By having a flexible job , a knowledge of various wave models and buoys , a commited attitude I don't miss too many of the good ones and do not always surf one spot because I live across the street . That being said apart from , Ty, NYCWO , Gotham , Frok , Jeff when he's here , and any body else I didn't mention these guys put in there time and generally are the in the corner off the rocks guys and deservingly . I for one know I am not what Frok considers one of the " Shoulder GUYS or shoulder hoppers " as a I know Myself , Looseness , JScott generally take off at the middle peak / sticks / BJ land which generally catches a lot of the bigger longer waves that peel , which suits my 80's /90's down the line style , and I know for a fact on certain swells a nice bowl/barrel section and where to find it .
I agree that many waves are wasted off the rocks and don't break all the way through and part of it is swell direction and the other is the sand bar. I surfed a few different areas this last swell and found the area in question was shutting down a lot more than it has in the past on this swell direction . Part of this was the tides were kinda funky this swell IMO .
When I am out there barring the aforementioned regular corner guys who make there share I go without hesitation and for the umpteenth time so should anyone else who is a regualr /local / whatever you consider yourself .
I other thing I know my JOB allows me a lot more freedom than most and I'm in a car anyway , but even when I OWNED on beach 120 st and rented on 122 , 131 , 134 , I travelled to other breaks when condiitons dictated so I understand pretty much all sides of the argument . I also first surfed in rockaway back in 1984 so I have seen different manifestations of that lineup or lack thereof for a few decades and feel in touch with the scene
