  • what do I know and maybe someone has said it here, but I've actually found it helpful to unglue my feet (a la crackie's boogaloo comment I guess).  anytime I get bucked off or dig a rail or something, I find myself thinking 'my feet got stuck' (mentally or physically, just didn't move them fast enough) as the error.  almost like how subway surfing's easier if you just let yourself take a step as opposed to keeping feet planted, or those sporting drills where  people are coming at you and you have to get your feet going before they hit you.

  • No leash plug is a good sign.. You riding heavy vintage stuff? That'll smooth out some bumps.

Cross reain I guess. Get on an indo board and watch old 60's surf flicks. Get your calf and leg muscles, as well as your feet in really good grippy shape.

Then there's water time. As much as possible. Ridy your logs at other spots, not just the "longboard" spots.

Sounds like you got the framework down, just live in the water and you'll make out.
Welcome to Rockaway.. Now Pick up some litter and go home.

  • The lose the leash/run off the end/watch the good guys and copy advice are the 3 things that have helped me enjoy my log significantly more than I used to.  I mean, I'm still probably the shabbiest logger in the room but just trying to copy moves I see in videos has helped a ton, specifically the turn and run back and crouching/leaning in/grabbing the outside rail to make a section without dumping the board.

Loggings tons of fun, now all we need is a long point, swell, and some offshores...

  • I think it's just water time.  You have to get a feel for it...  Longboarding is hard if you always shortboard.  I would go to turn the board and just fall over the side while the board kept going straight.  I only started getting better at it when I started doing it more often instead of once every two weeks.  I still have a ways to go, but at least I don't feel like a total kook on the longboard like I did a month and a half ago.
