  • A couple of articles on the S stroke:

Any thoughts from the swimmers amongst us?

I'm all for anything that makes me paddle more effectively/efficiently. I'm slow as molasses.

  • I use it when I'm trying to cover some distance to get to a peak , or when paddling hard against a heavy current running . As far as using the s stroke and paddling deep Unser my board to catch a wave usually not

  • I find the S stroke to be useful, but the most useful thing I learned from swimming is how to initiate my stroke from the core. Without that I find everything falls apart and is likely the cause of a lot of surfers' shoulder pain.

  • I am a weak paddler and use it all the time since I need every bit of help I can get.

  • i use the S stroke quite a bit.  But a bit less than i used to.  You have to be careful about your shoulders if you're going to do it.

You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.
