  • Hi!
I am landlocked in Germany and planning to visit friends in NYC in the end of March. I am really looking forward to spend some time surfing and perhaps you someone can help me out with some advice.
What kind of wetsuit is necessary for this time of the year (boots, gloves, hood?)?
How consistent is the surf during that time? I have only one week and would like to know about my chance to catch a fe waves. (I already checked Magicseaweed seasonal data but I appreciate first-hand experience)
I am thinking about renting at board at Boarders Surf shop and leaving my stuff in one of their lockers. Can you recommend that?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
    Peace, the Walrus

  • Boarders is the place to go, Walrus.

As far as surf predictions, we have a hard enough time projecting 3 days out around here, let alone 3 months - but I can tell you that we've had some pretty fun late March and Aprils in past years. And while there's always a chance you'll get skunked, you'll prob get at least a day or 2 of surfable waves.

Weather? It's no picnic in March and April, even if it is about to be spring. Think weather similar to Munich, and water temps still in the 40's - so plan accordingly. Some people will begin to pull off the hoods on the nice days, but gloves and boots are still the order of the day.

    Hope this helps...

  • Figure on needing a 5 or 6 mil hooded suit, 5 to 7 mil boots, and gloves to match.
Welcome to Rockaway.. Now Pick up some litter and go home.
