  • I'm not sure if the Green room is the place for this but Dam it was so green at NY BOT.
I totally recommend all the Greens and Garden folks on NYNJSurf go to this show. It's just amazing. Your eyes and nose will love you more if you take them to this Orchid Spectacular. Below are a few of the iPhone snap shots I took. I plan to go again on a weekday hoping it will be less crowded.

Not an Orchid but it's in Bloom and I love this vine. Passion Fruit in Red. I have a Lavender one in my sun/kidplayroom.

  • Rad video link, buku orchids. The temporarily transplanted Cuban royal palms look stressed, they should be irrigating the buds not just the roots.

  • beautiful pics. we might need a Garden Room on nynj, since garden stoke season is almost upon us.

I'm stoked that our bulbs are showing!! and my honeysuckle and rosebushes are starting up. we moved our hibiscuses inside for the winter and they have been blooming non-stop. our plumeria tree, on the other hand, is very very sad. i don't know what to do for it. i think it has a disease.

i think i told LN when we were surfing in CA in Feb - all i really want to do is garden and surf. that pretty much keeps me stoked 24/7. and i don't even know what the hell i'm doing - on both fronts!

  • Snag good idea about the 'Grow Room'
Plumerias are one of the few tropicals that love to go dormant, its a response to the shortening days- now that days are getting longer it may come around. Is leaf loss the only evidence that makes you think it is not doing well?

It also needs to stay close to 72-80 degrees to be happy - never get below 60 degree air around it (its a zone 10-11 ultra tropical species).

yeah - constant leaf loss. i think there were bugs, too. onefin was battling these little white bugs constantly. we repotted it, but it seems just as sad now. maybe it's not warm enough. it's close to the heater, but maybe it's just not hot enough. it's sort of a sad little trident of a tree - just three branches and not much on them

  • that's pretty typical of my experience with plumerias.  Might just be the seasonal sun response, but they always seem to lose leaves regularly (even in HI).  So i think it's largely a matter of giving them enough sun and water and food to stimulate rapid growth of new ones.

Funny, cause I've been thinking about our conversation a bit.  I could be really happy tending garden and getting a little session in each day.  Gotta figure out how to get there.

  • I had to Drive up to Brewster NY today to resolve a legal matter with a summons I received for lapsed insurance (opps). No biggie but I did have to appear before a judge. So I drive up. Awesome ride btw, it's great to see mountains and trees and clear highways.

I got to town but I was  unsure where the courthouse was located so I pull into an office park hoping to get directions.  Miraculously at the back of the office park I saw big sign that read Venamy Orchids. I parked right in front and went in for directions. $60 later I walked out with these two little fellows. They smell incredible and I was so beyond stoked because I meet a bunch of really cool orchid freaks that were way more into it then me.

It's the surfing equivalent to running into Laid Hamilton on Maui and then surfing with him for 45 minutes. He's way more into then you will ever be but he's entertained by you so he lets you hang around.

Totally stoked on how things worked out (case dismissed) and being inside my first orchid grow house (score).
