  • first off that sounds like a great deal... second, how is bikram really?  lately ive been doing yoga like twice a week and have been practicing it on and off for quite a while now but ive never tried heated yoga - i sweat a lot in regular yoga (i take ashtanga & hatha) - i couldnt imagine how slippery my mat would get doing bikram.

i hear both good and bad about bikram - thoughts??

  • check out the thread on bikram that i started - shacky and LN had some great insight. i had dabbled in the past, started up in earnest for about a month, then had to stop and am about to get started again. to me, it's very different from other yoga. i think it's more strenuous, largely because of the heat, but i do think it unkinks things in ways other yoga doesn't. it's cleansing and i think it fixes injuries like nothing else can. that's my take after some fits and starts with it. for me, it's the most bang for your buck, in terms of what you get out of 90 minutes.

when i lived in LA, i used to go to kundalini yoga at the golden bridge. i really enjoyed it, but it was more of a mind/body thing, whereas, at least for me, bikram is more pure body. i know people will say there are mental benefits, and there definitely are, but i feel like you achieve those more by pushing yourself physically than by tapping in through the mind first, if that makes any sense.

I just came from a bikram class over at Synergy in Fair Haven, would love it if an offer like this applied to somewhere closer to  home.

  • i like it, but i have hateful thoughts towards the teachers while i am doing it.

i know that's not very "yogi" of me, but i'm ok with that. i'm hoping the "i want to rip your head off right now" thoughts wane as i sweat out my anger, class by class

  • did my first clas today. it was a'ight, enjoyed it. instructor was superb. i imagine that is KEY. she could do everything, explained everything well, great tips, had complete control over the room and an eye on everyone...very impressive. talked really fast, combo of japanese accent over sanskrit words for the postures, which was hilarious. plenty i couldn't do, and body awareness is always fun, especially practicing in front of a mirror. just read the other thread, agreed, about posture and balance. fun enough.
