  • Well I have always been an athlete, and usually involved in some organized team. Some of you may remember that I rowed in college here at Phila U. Well that is no longer, class schedule, and the PR Photo trip with Art Brewer took priority. So I'm trying to stay busy. Have been swimming two nites a week when our school has a pool available. Getting in about 2500+ yds per nite in the 45 mins or so I have. On top of that trying to run and or bike in between. Starting tomorrow though I'm going to begin doing Taylor Knox's Surf Exercises. Watched the video today and learned the different workouts. So we will see how it goes and I will do some periodic updates.
    Peace,
    Kyle

  • that's a great video. some of the exercises are really hard. even just doing the pike correctly, it feels like i am going to land on my head. i've definitely gone flying off the swiss ball on a few of those. keep us posted on your progress - maybe that will motivate me to commit some time to those exercises, as well.

those exercises are great and will kick your ass for sure!!  I have been training very similarly for the last month or so and I've never felt better.  Taylor knox's trainer is a trainer at my gym - that guy knows his brown trout!

  • Kicked my ass indeed. Just ran through two sets of their "main" workout, takes about 30 minutes. By the third or fourth set I was in a good sweat. Felt pretty good though, and can really see how it will improve my surfing. So much balance involved, how they can position themselves and remain so still on the ball is crazy. Press and Pike is absurd, going to wind up knocking my head on that one definitely. That said, I'll be doing it again tomorrow. PS you can get it off surfvideonetwork.com and its only 15 bucks.
    Peace,
    Kyle

  • 1 week+ update: Did the work out 3 times this week, along with cardio in between days. Starting to get a better feel for the workouts already and the movements are less jerky. As my core gets stronger I should become more and more stable on the ball as well. All in all after surfing a good while Sunday, I can say that this will help your surfing, it hasn't had too much effect just yet, but I can feel where it will make improvements. Finally ran today again for the first time in 2 weeks after aggrevating my knee too, and it felt pretty good minus the cold/snow on the ground.
    Peace,
    Kyle
