Just heard that my old firm just laid of another 25% including a lot more partners, they are down to bare bones 20-25% of what they were at the peak. I am told its the company's last gasps of air, too bad, such a great body of work through the generations (planned battery park city).


On a better note, I started a firm with my wife 'Local Office Landscape Architecture' we like the acronym  . It feels like I have been waiting for this moment for all of my life. We have received so much support from friends, family and colleagues -not fulltime yet but its actually growing!


After winning a design award for Blueberry and Sandshark's garden then getting published for our urban beach park in PR, we have been designing projects in Greece, Saudi Arabia, Caribbean, some local green roofs on skyscrapers in the city, a temporary park on Governors Island and other ecological design projects in the region including a collaboration with onefin's mother Pennie who is a walking encyclopedia on biodynamic urban agriculture methods.


Even hired a few part-timers who were also laid off from the old firm. I think we have rocked the layoff of 2009 after a very rough 2008.

Chop, I know the old firm was a biggie firm. Just wondering, they must have been paying a fortune for office space alone. I wonder if they had ever considered breaking the lease and moving to downtown brooklyn/dumbo. I have seen two foundations I am close too move out of the city to dumbo and they love it now.

Thats a good question BB and a big wave on the avatar! A couple of corporate firms have moved to downtown Brooklyn, will recommend it to the partners there.
I hope this leads to a Renaissance in downtown BK.


Also didn't mention that the old firm hired my firm to consultant on a project, switching to 4 day weeks would help them as well.
