not just sugar, but coffee is slightly acidic. not good for electronics at all. sux!!!

all i know is my brother works around computers/keboards a lot and they spill brown trout all the time. why he switched from coke to diet coke and to coffee without sugar because sugar for some reason is bad. probably because it's sticky. otherwise you just turn the keyboard upside down and let it dry. should be ok.

I was going to recommend that SeaCliff investigate the iPad when I first read this, but I didn't want to be accused of being an apple cheerleader.

sc, i hope you cut the power supply (removed battery) and turned upside down immediately.
you can take it to tekserve, and they will charge you a fair amount to clean it out and hopefully get it up and running.
or you can do what i did with an old ibook, take the thing apart and use a qtip and water--ideally distilled--to remove any coffee residue. i don't do milk or sugar so what little had worked its way inside wasn't too hard to remove. it had gelled into weird gunk and when i got it off and let dry for another 36 hours i was in business. fyi i had turned the computer on after the spill--the worst thing you can do--and still rescued the computer.
maybe 6 months later the computer died for good, but that may not be from the coffee accident.

I did..and while it worked - I was able to dry it out and power it back up, it was pretty extensively wet down.

Unfortunatlyy I couldnt chance it frying on me in critical work time, so I replaced the machine. The hard drive was intact, so I bought a new macbook for work and simply swapped the old hard drive into it, fired it up, and was good to go.

I'll have the old one serviced and cleaned thoroughly and put the new hard drive in that one and use it for a backup - but water damage is a tricky thing, it's prob just a matter of time til a critical failure hits and the machine becomes just so much spare parts.

Oh well. One heck of an expensive cup of coffee.
