If you're around, this is a great cause, and the cash is sorely needed to help organize the Sept 7th event!!!

TOAST OF THE TOWN: Beach Bash helps kids with autism

By DEBBIE MURA

Helping kids with autism

Surfers Healing, a nonprofit organization that travels the country introducing surfing to children with autism, is coming to Belmar Sept. 7 for the second year to offer the thrill of surfing to area children with autism.

Last year an estimated 1,300 people, including 180 children with autism, came out to Beach Bash on the Jersey Shore, sponsored by Autism Family Services of New Jersey.

While the professional surfers who work with Surfers Healing volunteer their time, it is a costly proposition to set up the event. According to spokesman Frank Hines, costs include airfare and lodging for the West Coast-based volunteers as well as beach preparation, such as setting up tents and water stations.

To prepare for this year's event, the Belmar First Aid Squad will hold a dinner and gift auction 7 p.m. May 23 at the Waterview Pavilion in Belmar. Tickets are $40 per person and can be reserved by calling (732) 681-1359 or by e-mailing Hines at fhines@belmarfirstaid.com.
