  • Just shared elevator into office with Kareem Abdul Jabbar.  I have never felt so small in stature.  Also realized how hard it is to be inconspicuous when you're seven-foot-whatever.  WOW!!

  • ha ha! that's awesome! when my mom lived in this apartment building in beverly hills, he used to stop by all the time to "visit" this German lady, who happened to be a sex therapist or some sort of renowned author on the subject. anywhoo, i literally ran into him. he was so big i didn't see him, if that makes any sense. that was probably 15 years ago.

  • that vid is awesome, though looking at it I'm guessing Bruce Lee is taller than me b/c I swear, I was eye-to-belt-buckle with the man.  There were a few kids in the elevator too.  It was mind-boggling to see that the space from his ankle to his knee is about the height of your average 5-6 yr. old.

snags, he must have been in the prime of his career back then?  it was totally cool to see him.

  • Classy. Intelligent. Smooth. A guy who revolutionized the game.
The best NY basketball player ever(I don't count Jordan since he moved from BKlyn to NC when he was a baby). NBA All-time leading scorer and not just a self-obsessed jock, either. The guy dabbled in jazz, martial arts, was well-read, politically active and cerebral, all the while dominating the league.

  • I saw him one time as a kid in CA - i doubt i came up to his knee, but i remember being in awe.  Those sky-hooks were just indefensible - even now i can't see anyone really stopping his prime-year game.  His son used to teach one of my yoga classes - amazingly sculpted body from both yoga and genetics i'm sure.

  • wait, I've heard that song from the Kareem mix somewhere before.  Oh yes.  This was it:
    JK Wedding Entrance Dance

(hope that link works - I've never posted video.  And no, that is not my wedding)

I just hijacked my own thread.  But seeing Kareem was damn cool - athletes have always ranked over actors, etc. for me and it was fun to see a legend, and with such a commanding physical presence.

  • How much fun must it have been to play the low post with Magic running the point?

  • It was a pretty good deal for Magic, too. Not to mention Worthy, Scott, Coop...
That was some unreal basketball. The 80's Lakers-Celtics series were just classics. Magic completely redefined the game. The biggest Point guard before his time was maybe 6'4" with most averaging 6' or so. He literally saw over his defenders and whistled no look passes past their ears. But on the other hand, quicker #1s couldn't steal the ball cause he back 'em down.
Think about the showtime Lakers in their prime.
They had Kareem with an undefendable sky hook, the best pointguard in history hands down, one of the top 50 players of all time in James Worthy,
the best 6th man of his era in Cooper and the team's leading scorer through much of these years was Byron Scott. Lest we forget Pat Riley-one of the all-time greats.Makes you really respect those Celtics teams all the more for being such great rivals.
Those were great days no matter which team you liked best.
