  • Karma surge: in the same week two disappearances from several months ago came back to us -landscape gnome style. Our Zodiac Dinghy was found on the west side highway in Manhttan and our skateboard was found at a bar in Redhook.

  • Harbor master at Manhattan pier 40 (sailboat summer spot) got a call from last week DOT saying they are about to trash a yellow rolled up inflatable zodiac and thought they should contact him first. Harbor master said in all of his years of maritime experience he has only seen one guy with a yellow zodiac, so he called me to come over and identify the carcass.

During last sailing season (8months ago) our rubber duck (yellow zodiac) that we use to paddle us out to the sailboat mooring disappeared. Then last week it turned up in the median strip a few blocks away, deflated, rolled up, and tied into a burrito shape. DOT guys think it recently flew off the roof of a passing car at a high speed because it damaged the woody shrub planting in the median leaving a fresh swath of destruction in the landscape before coming to a dramatic halt.

Our house renovation has us drained financially and we didn't know where the several thousand dollars were going to come from for a new dinghy. I pumped her full of air with the bellows and she is good as new. I like to think ducky escaped her abductors after sighting our sailboat mooring as it passed by, knowing that now at the beginning of summer sailing season is when we need her most.    ;D

  • Skateboard Story:
Wifey and I were having lobster and Ales on the roof of the sixpoint brewery in Redhook on Saturday a few blocks from our house. Wifey came back from the ladies room saying that her board that I let get jacked several months ago was leaning against the dark wall by the bar. I told her those standard sector 9's all look the same, she was insistent that I check it out. Turns out it was it, with non standard screws and wheels, I remembered a distinctive paint fade under the nose.

Owner said it was left there three days ago and that I could take it, so I left her with my card and said that if someone comes looking for it to ask them to contact me so that I can hear the story.

I wish I knew the adventures that these toys of joy went off into the world and experienced, great to have them back to share more memories together.

  • Thanks all, I thought you guys might appreciate this story. I still can't believe things were found only blocks from their point of departure.

Ankle that's so true, these are only in NY type stories. Its funny, only in NY do I expect such clusters of lucky consequence, anywhere else it feels like some sort of G.G. Marquez style magical realism.
