About the event:
The 2nd Annual Coquina Jam is an all-female surf contest which benefits breast cancer awareness - proceeds go to Boarding for Breast Cancer (
www.b4bc.org).
Team Selections:
The first 32 paid entries had their names written on clam shells. On August 11th, at The Black Whale, we randomly selected the 2-woman teams which were based on age. The median age was found, the girls were split into 2 pools and then teams were selected with one girl coming from each pool. Due to optioning the no wave date of August 25th, there may be some paid competitors that are unable to compete. Please contact us for reimbursement of your entry fee and we will find you an alternate surfer! Potential alternate surfers, please send your name, age and contact info to us at
info@jettylife.com.
The Bracket:
The bracket is available on our official Facebook page, on our homepage at Jettylife.com or you can access a printable version of the bracket here -http://www.jjcliff.com/storage/docs/coquina_bracket_2010.pdf.
The Contest:
Surfers are to report to the 68th Street beach at 4pm on Wednesday, August 25th. At 5pm sharp, the first heat will be in the water as 32 female surfers will compete for the coveted Coquina Jam trophy. The final four teams advance and compete at the Clam Jam in October (10/17)! The NO WAVE DATE has been activated and we will attempt to have the Coquina Jam on Wednesday, August 25th.
Fundraising:
Speakeasy Pizza & The Black Whale have donated pizza and clams which will be for sale on the beach. Jetty will also be selling pink coozies, soda, water & event t-shirts. We will also be running a raffle with the ALO (
www.livingocean.org) and the prize is a brand new Jetty surfboard! Come out and support local female surfers and a great cause from 5pm-dark on Wednesday, August 25th @ 68th Street in Brant Beach.
Questions, comments and/or suggestions should be directed to
info@jettylife.com. We are currently seeking volunteers to lend a hand at the contest. T-shirt sponsorships are still available for $100.
