If you are doing a fish or a short board you may be able to get away with a surform and some sanding blocks. For a longboard you are going to need a planer to skin the blank.

Its hard to say..I have soo many different tools and techniques for each tool. I don't want to give you a list of things that will amount to over 2,000 dollars and have you un-stoked on doing it. Bare basics....your going to need a planer. Preferably one with smooth, fast and easy depth adjustment knob. (you don't want to be fighting the planer to cut deeper, epecially on the fly). After that you need a small block plane for taking down the stringer. A surform (10 or 10.5") and an assortment of sand paper (60, 80, 100, 150 and...... 220 for the finish sand.) You can PM me with any questions. I'll help you out as best as I can. Now go shopping!!
