  • Never ridden one, but I think Todd Proctor knows a lot about waves and how boards work. This description of the "Monsta" had me thinking about hydrodynamics and why my favorite boards worked well...

  • Yeah...he's got a good handle on what he's doing, that's for sure. That monsta looks sweet.

Haven't surfed a proctor board in a few years...but if I get the chance, I def will!

  • On a completely unrelated note, ever notice how often you see the words, "ride 3-4 inches shorter than your usual shortboard" in a board's description? In theory, if you kept doing that for a while and trading down, it wouldnt be long before you'd be riding a 4'10"  :o ;)

And for that matter, how come you never see descriptions that say, "ride 3-4 inches longer than your usual shortboard" ?  ::) ::)

I think if you traveled a lot to places with long period deep water swells on the regs you probably be coming across a few shapers or locals who would tell you to ride a board a few inches if not 6-12 inches longer than your regular shortboard . Unless you surf like a top whatever they called wct surfer riding your regular 5'11 2" thck 18" wide aint going to cut it for all but a handful of guys in serious shallow spinning hollow waves but his is fairly obvious

  • After surfing boards under 5'9" (I'm 6'1", 165-170, long-time skateboarder) almost exclusively for the past two years, I actually want to know what my "standard" dimensions are. I am still excited about dumpster divers/simsters/white diamonds/et al., but I'm ready for a dyed-in-the-wool, all-arounder shortboard. It just doesn't seem that easy to add on 3-4 inches to my go-to CI Pod and voila! Magic Shortboard, at your service. Or is it?

However you slice it, even though Proctor recommends riding this shorter than your standard, I like the looks of this board.

  • I would take a stab at saying that a 6'1 x 18.75-19 x 2.25-2.38 with a squash or thumb tail would be around the range of a pro surfer who can generate a  lot of speed rail to rail on a standard thruster , and is around your size .

all the boards you are riding are fish variants and in the whats old is new again shorter wider category .

I still ride regular shortboards in the winter in chest plus offshore spinning waves , my regular shortboard dims from last yr was 6'4 x 19 x 2.5 thumb tail with a full boxy rail for reference and I have about 20 lbs on you . or a 6'6 x 19 x 2 3/8 thumb

a 6'1 or 6'2 should be perfect for you Tummee
